We receive lots of compliments from guests who have enjoyed their stay at The Royal and the following are some of their comments:-

Clean, lovely service and atmosphere. Excellent food.

“Nice touches”

This is a really lovely hotel which makes you want to return. The location, nicely appointed rooms and excellent dining (try the sirloin steak!) and breakfast made our little trip to Bath a really enjoyable one despite storm Doris trying to ruin it. The staff, from the reception to the dining room were so pleasant and helpful, added to our enjoyment; and the clever little touches – fruit and chocolates in rooms, top quality tea leaves for breakfast – were cherries on the top that will be remembered. This is the place to stay for a visit to Bath.

“Cosy, old style, friendly hotel”

My husband and I booked for one night. We had a voucher deal with wowcher, one night stay with 3 course dinner champagne, cream tea, and breakfast. We stayed in room 306, with all amenities, iron board, trouser press, complementary fruit bowl and bottle of water in room. Comfy bed looking out on to offices but quiet. Staff were very friendly and inviting, food was very tasty and presented well, service was quick and professional.

“First class”

Everything was superb. Friendly and attentive staff. Fantastic food. Great location. Spotlessly clean. I was here to celebrate my 50th birthday and had a gorgeous meal in the hotel there really is no need to leave hotel to look for places to eat. The menu is extensive.

“The best hotel I have ever had the pleasure of staying in!”

My partner and I decided to visit Bath as a Valentine’s Day treat. We stayed at the Royal Hotel on the 13th February and left on the 14th. It was a delight from the start to the finish. You can check-in at any time after 14:30 and check out has to be before 11:00. The receptionist at the desk was incredibly lovely and, although we arrived at the hotel early in the morning, allowed us to store our luggage in a locked room so that we could tour Bath without carrying it around. The bedroom we booked (room 109) included a four-poster bed which I think is the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in (I honestly didn’t want to get out of it in the morning.) We were provided with some complimentary slippers, a bottle of water and chocolates. There was also a kettle with some hot chocolate, biscuits and a plentiful supply of tea and coffee. In the bathroom there were free soaps/shampoos, a sewing kit, a small bottle of body lotion and some shoe shine. I thoroughly recommend including breakfast and dinner in your stay because it is VERY worth it. You get a three course meal for dinner and for breakfast you get to choose from a buffet table (things like various juices, croissants, yogurts, fruit etc) on top of ALSO getting a menu to choose from a variety of cooked breakfasts. Breakfast and dinner are served in the hotels own restaurant, called the Brasserie Brunel. I am going to write a review on the restaurants TripAdvisor page. The bathroom included a large bath/shower, toilet, sink and towel rack. The bedroom also provided a hairdryer, television, selection of DVDs that you can request from reception, an iron and ironing board and lots of cupboard space with hangers so that you can hang your clothes. Overall it was a delightful experience, thoroughly recommended and I hope to return again in the future.

“All round excellent hotel”

Booked the hotel with the best location to the train station and previous visits to the bar area. Some reviews mentioned noise at the front of the hotel but this was not a problem with the secondary glazing. If you like non modern hotels you will like this one. The breakfast is worth mentioning that the selection is very good and excellent quality and with good staff it makes for a very delightful experience.

“Great overnight stay”

“Two day all inclusive spa package”

Lovely small hotel bang in the middle of Bath city centre. Very near to the train station(literally opposite ) friendly staff excellent service ,excellent food. I highly recommend .We had a great time and Thermae Spa was worth the visit.

“Overnight stay”

Just got home after one of the most enjoyable overnight stays I have ever had. Great location for all of Bath’s attractions, which are a few minutes walk away. The Hotel is spotless and welcoming and the staff are second to none. Read a previous review about the food and was not disappointed. Steak was one of the best I have tasted and the service was excellent. Room was lovely and well appointed. Special mention to James (assistant manager I think) who was in the restaurant for the evening meal and was fantastic. He knew the menu inside out and was able to advise on ingredient’s etc. Also the young lady in reception (sorry did not grab a name) Helpful, polite and engaging. As with all the staff they are a credit to the Hotel. We usually stay at one of “chain” hotels in Bath when we visit (4/5 times a year) but will be returning to the Royal and will encourage all our friends to do the same.

TripAdvisor – January 2017

This was our first visit and we were very impressed. From the initial welcome to the final checkout, we couldn’t fault the service. The room was excellent as was the evening meal. Will definitely be coming back for a longer stay

“Very good hotel in excellent location”

Enjoyed the excellent value 2 day break. Very good choice of food available from the inclusive a la cartel menu. Rooms well stocked and comfortable. Staff very friendly and helpful. Hotel is ideally located for easy access to many of the attractions in this beautiful city. Limited car parking so booking in advance essential.

TripAdvisor – January 2017

“Great stay in Bath”

From the initial booking to the check out the service we received from all the staff at the Royal Hotel was friendly, courteous and professional. The hotel itself is a traditional Victorian ‘railway station’ property but has been sympathetically restored retaining a lot of original features and centrally located within a few minutes walk of most attractions in Bath. We stayed for a one night ‘package’ to include breakfast, dinner (including a glass of bubbly!) and a cream tea. The quality of the food at all meals was great with and our room (at the rear of the hotel) was quiet and nicely furnished. All in all we could not have wished for a better quality, value for money stay.

TripAdvisor – January 2017

“Perfect location”

It is an old hotel but is very well kept. It has an elevator so it is fairly convenient. It is located right outside the Bath Spa Station and a five minute walk to the Royal Baths and the City Centre. They allow bags to be stored after 12 noon check out so we had the time roaming around Bath without the inconvenience. I recommend this hotel if your plan is touring UK via train.

TripAdvisor – January 2017

Very helpful and friendly staff. We had a very spacious and comfortable room and our evening meal was excellent.

Judith Williams – Facebook January 2017

“A perfect place to relax”

We spent two very comfortable nights in this lovely hotel. It’s position was perfect, especially as we travelled by train, and was opposite the station. Within a few minutes walk we were in the centre of Bath. The food in the hotel was absolutely delicious and the staff couldn’t have been friendlier or more helpful. We loved it.

TripAdvisor – January 2017

“Lovely hotel for reasonable price break”

Hotel staff very good, hotel rooms very clean , well stocked tea /coffee tray. Bed very comfortable, decent quality bed linen and towels. Cream tea excellent and huge amount of choice on menu for evening meal and breakfast, food very good. Location very central also right by station.

“Fantastic one night stay!”

Booked a discounted deal via Wowcher. Was able to book on site parking for just £8 for 24 hrs, bargain for the city centre. The hotel staff were wonderfully friendly and helpful. We booked for the visiting mobile beautician to come and do a luxurious massage and facial in our room after dinner so we received a free upgrade to a superior room to accommodate their tables. We stayed in room 309, it was lovely, large and very comfortable with super comfortable beds, a sofa chairs and large TV and DVD player. Bathroom lovely and clean and warm, no getting out of a shower to a cold floor!
As part of our deal we had a 3 course meal in the restaurant (anything off the menu) with a glass of champagne. All yummy. The next day we returned after a bit of retail therapy for a quick lunch and enjoyed our last freebie a cream tea of 2 scones, clotted cream and jam. Scrum my warm scones!
I would have no hesitation in returning to this hotel, nor of recommending it to anyone. We may even return later in the year! A wonderful find.

TripAdvisor – January 2017

“Pre-Christmas short break”

We stayed here just before Christmas on a Wowcher package which comprised two nights accommodation, breakfast, dinner on both nights, afternoon tea and a glass of champagne! A lovely, traditional hotel conveniently situated for the centre on the corner opposite the train station. Can’t fault it. Immediately felt comfortable just walking through the front door. Friendly staff, comfortable room. Good selection of dishes for dinner and the same for breakfast. My partner said the vegetarian breakfast was the best she’d eaten at a hotel, superb. Oh and the afternoon cream tea was also very good. Would I stay here again? Most definitely-thoroughly recommend, especially if you like small traditional hotels with great service and staff.

TripAdvisor – January 2017

Can’t say one bad thing about this great hotel. If you are going for shopping in Bath it’s a fantastic location. Staff were so friendly and welcoming. Food great standard.

Melody Truss – Facebook January 2017

“Cant fault it on any level”

WOW – thank you for such a great experience. A traditional, old school hotel. No chrome or MDF – just good old fashioned service, homely unpretentious bedrooms, cosy lounges and a teeny tiny lift! A friend and I went for a birthday treat through a Groupon deal. Experience before on deals is that you don’t get quite the same perks! – well, not the case here. A room upgrade (as we were having the spa ladies visit us for treatments), lovely traditional room with everything you need, wonderful choice of menu (3 courses with ANYTHING of the a la carte included), tasty breakfast served (no hot buffet cheating here) and warm scones and clotted cream for afternoon tea! A big thank you to Will who on a request for a small gift for my friend, went out to buy a box of chocs to put in the room for arrival. If you want traditional experience, good British food and a relaxed comfortable environment, this hotel definitely scores top marks.

TripAdvisor – January 2017

“Absolutely superb – first class!”

Simply put, The Royal Hotel was absolutely sensational in every way – be that the extremely friendly and helpful staff, the exquisite room or the location and ambience of the place. I can only recommend the staff and their hotel very highly. From the moment I arrived right through to departure, Will and his colleagues on reception went out of their way to make me feel at home and I felt truly spoiled and well looked after for the duration of my entire 2-night stay and no request or query went unanswered. My room was perfect however, when I asked shortly after arrival if there was an upgrade available – and luckily for me there was – it was a truly smooth process to be able to move rooms in next to no time and with minimum fuss. The hotel has a lot of character and is ideally located with easy access to transport links and walking distance to most key attractions. I for one hope to return to The Royal Hotel in the not too distant future as my overall experience with this beautiful hotel made my trip! I will heartily recommend it to anyone should they ask me where to stay if they’re coming to Bath for a visit.

TripAdvisor – January 2017

“As good as ever”

So our fourth visit- and the best thing about the hotel, food and staff is consistently! We have been on visits at all times of the year, and the hotel never falls short for us. Mike runs this smoothly run ship, with a smile and a firm hand. He is an excellent manager, who will be seen in the kitchen, restaurant and front of house in reception- this in turn means all areas are cared for. All the staff, without exception, will greet you with a smile, and do their best to make your stay as nice as possible. From the moment you walk in, you will be treated as if you are the only visitors staying. I must stress!!!! This hotel is a lovely old railway hotel, and is characterful…. it is NOT a modern plastic hotel, and you should go elsewhere if Travelodge is your thing. If you want comfort and cleanliness…if you want quality and old family values, this is the place for you. The food is super…. the plates are not bulging with cheap processed food-but quality, in every way… from the fresh coffee, and loose tea, to the local bacon and fresh pastries at breakfast, your day couldn’t start off in a better way. Your evening meal, is beautifully presented and each dish won’t disappoint. To finish this review….. try as you might, you will NOT get a nicer hotel, with better value for money in Bath. We will, as always, look forward to our return visit.

TripAdvisor – January 2017

Spent a couple of days in Bath, overnight at the Royal. Food very good, staff excellent. As with most older hotels more character than modern. Enjoyed our stay.

“Birthday trip.”

My daughter and I stayed for one night on the 11th of January and I just wanted to say how welcoming and friendly the staff were. The food was to a very high standard and the rooms very clean and comfortable. Great location to the town for shopping. Thank you to all the staff.

TripAdvisor – January 2017

“Perfect!”

We stayed on a “Travelzoo” special so we were not expecting A1 treatment but just the opposite was true. This is a “Station Hotel” built when the railway arrived in bath and fits the period perfectly. The room was quite quirky with a step in the middle, high ceilings and huge windows but warm and comfortable. Everything was provided in the welcome tray including fresh fruit, water and a cafetiere with a big box of ground coffee, much better than the Nescafe sachets usually offered and a first for any hotel we have stayed in. The deal included a cream tea on arrival which was excellent, the scones were even warm and more than enough cream. We were surprised to be offered the full a la carte menu with some super choices and the Brasserie restaurant was warm, comfortable and full of atmosphere. The staff, from reception to barmen, waiters and cleaners were thoroughly friendly, helpful and polite. One of our best Hotel experiences in many years of travel. Thank you !.

TripAdvisor – January 2017

Absolutely lovely old hotel .. just come back from there and staff was pretty amazing .. lovely food very welcoming .. would defo return again

Ana Lillis – Facebook January 2017

“Amazing and lovely”

The hotel has great location, walking distance to all major scenic spots of Bath. The room is in good size, very clean and homey with an ambience of transitional British countryside. Facilities are well maintained, nothing scratchy. Staff are very friendly and helpful. And the restaurant is surprisingly good. I had breakfast and dinner there during my two nights stay. Food is in good quality, poached pear is impressive. Overall, it’s a lovely place to stay for a short visit in Bath, to experience the authentic flavour of the city.

TripAdvisor – January 2017

“Friendly staff and perfect location”

A friendly staff always makes travelling solo easier … They answered questions, had recommendations and loaned out an umbrella when an unexpected storm came in. Location can’t be beat when arriving on the train! Thank you!

“Very clean room with excellent service.”

The room was very clean although building was very old. We had a dinner at hotel restaurant, and food quality was very delicious by using fresh local material. The staff was very kinds with excellent service.

“Quaint Hotel”

A real traditional oldie world look about the hotel. Internally it been modernised to a good standard rooms very comfortable. Breakfast is really good, very good choice and quality. Staff very helpful and friendly with local advice to attractions. Very convenient to bars, restaurants and travel connections.

TripAdvisor – December 2016

“Cosy vintage charm”

If you want soul-less double-glazed air-conditioned pristine chrome-wood-modern decor, then maybe this isn’t the place for you. The vintage cosy welcoming style of this Grade 2 listed small hotel in the centre of Bath is perfect for those who prefer a more comfortable traditional style. Delicious steak properly rare for dinner with poached pear with honeycomb ice cream to finish. Breakfast freshly cooked to order. Eggs perfectly poached. Sipsmiths gin and Fever Tree tonic being available in the bar is always a good measure of a hotel. We shall return…I liked it a lot.Top tip….perhaps when decorating the rooms you could take them back in time to when Brunel designed them…would give a more boutique feel to them? Just a thought.

TripAdvisor – December 2016

“Wonderful little gem!”

This was my third year running staying at this lovely hotel whilst visiting the Christmas Market on a two night break. Such lovely, friendly and helpful staff who go out of their way to make the stay perfect. A very typically ‘old school’ beautiful English Breakfast served in the traditional way. Dinner menu very varied, full and plenty. Food is gorgeous and compliments to the chef for sure!! Beautiful comfortable bedroom in every way with delightful en suite bathroom. Everything one would need. Love coming here and the location perfect for absolutely everything in Bath. Situated opposite Bath Spa Station so very easy access for travelling. Definitely will be back next year!!

TripAdvisor – December 2016

“Really relaxing stay”

All the comforts of home. Ideally situated…warm, comfortable bed with so many added extras. All the staff were very helpful and the breakfast superb! Definitely returning to this clean and delightful hotel.

TripAdvisor – December 2016

“Such an enjoyable experience”

Stayed for a visit to the Christmas Market. This hotel was so pleasant to spend time in … very traditional and well run family hotel .I had a single room which was warm, clean and with plenty of space. Situated only 50 yards from the rail station (but very quiet) it is a short walk from the Pump Room and the Abbey (passing some very nice Shops!)

TripAdvisor – December 2016

“Great spa break. Thoroughly recommended for leisure, or business.”

We stayed in this hotel before and had a good time. This time we had a great time! The big drawback last time was the unreliable wifi, which has now been fixed. Our room was a better room, small but convenient and beautifully furnished with all we could need, including a cafetiere with ground coffee. The hotel is right opposite the rail station and very convenient for the major shops, and within walking distance of the Thermae Bath Spa. We booked an inclusive package with spa voucher and a champagne cream tea back at the hotel bar. We also ate from the hotel’s bar menu both evenings we were there, but the hotel also has a restaurant which we did not try for dinner but seems to be popular. Breakfast was served there and was very good, with a buffet for the cold things and hot food cooked to order. The full English was good enough to keep me going all day on the day we left! It’s not a luxury hotel, but is excellent at what it does. I joined the loyalty scheme and expect to be back several times. I love Bath and prefer train travel, and the Royal Hotel suits me fine. Friendly and helpful staff, comfortable room, good food and drink, convenient location. Next to perfect!

TripAdvisor – November 2016

“Outstanding as usual”

Just on our way home now! After an absolutely outstanding stay at the Royal! Yet again. Cannot recommend the hotel highly enough, all staff are fantastic, polite, helpful, nothing is too much trouble. The value for money is exceptional!!!! Couldn’t be in a better location if arriving by train. We had both evening meals and breakfasts in the Brasserie Brunel restaurant, the food is delicious!!! We both had the steak, which was heavenly. Cannot wait to return in 2017!!! Thanks to all staff that made our stay so pleasurable. See you all soon.

“Excellent hotel, staff, food and cleanliness”

Booked hotel as closest to station and as single, female traveller didn’t want to have to get taxi. Outside appearance quite drab but once inside was nicely presented. Very pleasant receptionist, booked in easily and ventured in to small lift to room 302. I had requested room on front of hotel with shower and this is what I was given. Initial opinion of room was quite dark because wallpaper is in keeping with age of hotel but not to my taste but when I returned later I gave the room a more thorough inspection. Shower room spotless, great freebies including sewing kit. Lovely white fluffy towels, excellent quality toilet paper, tissues and sanitary bags, All that you could need. Then onto the bedroom, spotless, good quality bedding. Was zip link bed but had 2 duvets so very practical and no squabbling. The curtains shut out all the outside light and was not aware of excessive noise from street. Plenty of hanging and drawer space. Luggage stand in cupboard. The tea tray couldn’t be faulted. Cafetiere and ground coffee, Tea pot and good selection of tea bags. English breakfast, Earl Grey, herbal including lemon and ginger, sachets of nescafe, including de-caff, and hot chocolate. Lovely biscuits and complimentary bottle of water. Nice size mugs too. Breakfast was included and lovely. Good choice of cold to start, juices, cereals, fruit and pastries on the buffet. Waiter took order for tea/coffee and toast. White or brown. Not only basic full English on menu but fish and various egg alternatives. Great menu and quality was superb. I also liked quality of furniture, crockery, cutlery and linen. Staff friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay again and recommend. Especially for Christmas market.

TripAdvisor – November 2016

“Perfect.”

The hotel is literally across the road from Bath Spa railway station. I know it’s almost Christmas and you’d expect a bit “extra” but there’s so much more to this grade II listed building than you would imagine for the price. I’ve stayed in much costlier hotels and not had a free bottle of mineral water at my bedside for example. There’s a cosy feel to it as soon as you step through the door. Bar, restaurant, lift and staff are really so helpful. We enjoyed a bar meal on our first evening and breakfast on the second morning – faultless. This was my first visit to Bath but I know if I ever visit again, I know I won’t need to bother even looking for a hotel. I’m going straight back to The Royal. Well done everybody.

TripAdvisor – November 2016

“Another excellent stay”

Right opposite Bath station. We had another excellent two night break in the hotel, before all the mad Christmas rush starts, as always the hotel receptionist greeted us like long lost friends, all the staff are friendly and welcoming . As usual we had evening meal booked in the restaurant and this didn’t disappoint food was superb and plenty of choice to satisfy your taste and appetite. Breakfast is a must, huge choice from English traditional breakfast to haddock, salmon and scrambled eggs , kippers and eggs Benedict. We’ve seen and done all the tourist things in Bath and it’s nice to go back to the hotel after shopping and relax with a coffee or a drink in the lounge. The hotel is spotless as are the bedrooms, I love how they haven’t ruined the hotel by changing its character, even the upgrading and redecorating of the hotel , which is constantly ongoing, has been kept in the style that the building deserves . We look forward to the next break in the new year to the Royal hotel Bath.

“Great service , great food a lovely hotel , thank you ”

“First stay at the Royal”

Our room was spacious and clean, comfortable bed. Staff were very friendly and helpful, and the food great. We particularly enjoyed the halloumi cheese and spinach breakfast which made a nice vegetarian alternative to a traditional English, although we also had the full English too. There was a varied choice for dinner, very good menu. Great central location, we will be back!

“Fantastic in all areas”

Another fantastic stay and a wonderful hotel. The staff are great the location is great the rooms are great. What more is there to say…. just that we can’t wait to go back again. We asked for a room with a bath on this occasion and well worth it after a hard day shopping. Definitely worth a visit. Thank you.

“A Good Classic Hotel, Well Situated”

At first glance, the hotel is nothing special, a classic railway hotel built for the former-day age of the age of the railway – Victorian, single-glazed, creaky floors, and not built for our modern usage. But what it does it does very well. The staff are very happy, cheery and helpful, and go out of their way to make your stay a pleasant one. Everything is clean, though a little dated in style. The lounge and bar are very comfortable (we spent a lot of time here over the days as my mother is older and likes to sit a lot) and the barman very helpful and attentive (which also suited the younger members of our party). Bar meals are good too. On our final night we ate in the restaurant – we had the steak – and here too we were extremely pleased. It was actually the best meal we had in Bath and for the most reasonable price. My suggestion? – don’t waste your money in the posher restaurants but eat in The Royal Hotel – excellent. The bedrooms are, as you’d expect, oddly shaped and small with bathrooms later inserted as well as possible, but are perfectly fine and clean. And there is a (slow) lift if the sloping stairs are beyond your ability. Location is opposite the railway station, a few minutes walk from the Roman Baths and, importantly after a busy touristy or shopping day, always downhill on the walk back!Go stay in The Royal Hotel, and enjoy a traditional stay, you won’t be disappointed.

TripAdvisor – November 2016

“Very pleasant stay”

Good sized room and bathroom, and such a comfortable bed! Everything’s very clean and the staff are very friendly ! The hotel is very well situated in Bath: close to the roman baths, to the city center, the shops…

TripAdvisor – November 2016

“Great staff, ideal location”

This hotel could not be better located for the railway station, the spa and shops and restaurants. The staff are delightful and service was excellent even when dealing with a group of eight. There was a good choice at breakfast and dinner and everything was cooked to order. Part of its charm is the old building and irregular shaped bedrooms so not a place if you expect the ultra modern but very comfortable. It is the second time we have stayed there and hope to do so again.

TripAdvisor – November 2016

“A very pleasant stay”

My wife and I enjoyed a wonderful stay here. The staff are superb and couldn’t have been more helpful. The public rooms and bedrooms are very pleasant and the breakfast was one of the best I’ve ever had. The hotel is very well located and within easy walking distance of the old city centre. Overall a delightful place to stay and I would definitely recommend.

“Hen weekend,spa weekend”

My daughter chose Bath for her hen weekend. We called the Royal Hotel Bath to enquire regarding a booking for 11 guests for the spa weekend. Which was very good value and included tickets for the Thermae Spa (amazing), and an afternoon tea, and also included the price of breakfast. They were more than happy to book our party. From the time we made the booking to the time of arrival everything went really smoothly. The hotel is directly opposite the train station. We were welcomed at the hotel with a high standard, the rooms were spotless and very spacious, the staff throughout the hotel were very friendly and couldn’t do enough for us. Food was great and very well presented, the bar is very comfortable and available at any time of day. Would we come again ? Most certainly yes. Would we recommend? Most certainly would. Thank you so much for making our weekend so special. And we will see you again soon. Best wishes Jeanette Dowling (Hayleys hen weekend)

“Ladies Spa Break”

So pleased we discovered the Royal Hotel in Bath. We were looking for a location near the railway station as our friend was travelling from Devon and we were motoring down from Worcestershire, The 2 night Classic Spa Break was just perfect for our needs. As we all wanted to be in the same room, we were given a family room with 3 very comfortable beds. The room was on the second floor overlooking the road and although we could hear the traffic when we opened the double glazing it didn’t bother us. We took advantage of the dining offer of £19 for a 3 course dinner. The food was excellent and of a very high quality both in presentation and flavour. The arrangements for our spa visit were explained to us by the very friendly reception staff who also sorted our luggage storage as we arrived before check-in time on day one. After our 2 hour visit to the Thermae Spa we returned to the hotel to be served our champagne afternoon cream tea by the very friendly barman. Delicious,
Our friend’s train back to Devon was not until lunchtime on departure day but the reception staff had no difficulty in storing our luggage at 11am check-out until our family came to collect us at lunchtime, which gave us more time to explore the wonderful city of Bath. We will certainly be returning to the Royal Hotel and may even make it an annual event.

“Perfect location”

Great location, right opposite the station and easy access for the centre, shopping, bars restaurants, sightseeing and of course rugby. Clean comfortable rooms, and very pleasant staff. “A quaint hotel with outstanding service”

Stayed here for a few nights in October 2016. The hotel is right across the street from the train station and within easy walking distance of the highlights of the area including the Roman baths and the Bath Abbey. The room was a decent size and was clean and well decorated. I was particularly impressed by the front desk team who were incredibly helpful in providing suggestions for dinner reservations and for local areas of interest in the Somerset and Wiltshire areas. The breakfast (included) offers the choice of a light continental buffet or a full English breakfast.

“2 Day break”

This was our second visit to this Hotel, we came by train, and it is so convenient, a short stroll across the road to the Hotel. We were given a warm welcome at reception and left our luggage for later when booking in, and continued sight-seeing in Bath. For this break we had an inclusive deal of B & B plus A la Carte Dinner. The room was compact, very comfortable and had everything you need. We enjoyed our evening meals and breakfasts there were plenty of choices, and the staff first class at all the evening and breakfast meals. When it was time to leave, we again left the luggage with the very helpful reception staff to spend a little more time in Bath before our train journey home. Excellent!!!

“Warmly welcoming & great location”

Greeted with efficiency & very friendly courtesy created a good first impression. My lack of foresight in pre booking a parking space was resolved swiftly without problem and we were ensconced in our third floor room within a short time of arrival. The room was a reasonable size, clean, warm with everything one hopes for: ie: Some seating, plenty of space to put ‘stuff’, tea/coffee/bottled water (the complimentary chocolate & biscuits made a nice welcoming touch) plus a spotless bathroom with plenty of towels, toiletries etc. The choices for breakfast have to be heartily commended. All perfectly cooked & presented. A great way to start the day exploring Bath from what is a really good location, literally out the door, across the (Busy) street and into the pedestrianised shopping areas.
Summary: It is obvious from the above that my wife & I thoroughly enjoyed our four days in Bath not least because the ‘Royal Hotel’ is very interesting and full of character which reflects a bygone era of great British achievement, but mainly because every single one of the staff we encountered were smartly efficient, hardworking, unfailingly cheerful, & a credit to the establishment. NB. Promise to the wife “Our next visit to Bath starts at the ‘Royal'”.

“Royal Hotel…..the best! 🇬🇧”

I loved this hotel! The single ensuite room with breakfast was just perfect. Heidi (reception) & the other gentlemen in reception (failed to get his name), Margaret (server at breakfast) and house-keeping were so kind and helpful. This hotel had the most beautiful prints of Bath and the surroundings. I collect prints when I travel to remember the places I visit and these prints were something to see. They were on all floors! The breakfast were so delicious and such a variety. I had the full English breakfast one day, the cold plate of ham & cheese another, and then they always had a buffet of cereals, pastries, croissants, fruit, prunes, yogurt, toast, coffee/tea, etc. The breakfast will keep you going all day! I was so pleased when I arrived in Bath after a 4 hr. journey from Cornwall to see the Royal Hotel right there when I came out of the train station…… and I loved the flowers that decorated the hotel. Bath is a beautiful city and the Royal Hotel is the perfect spot to stay and explore……

“Visit with Mum :)”

I am late thirties and my Mum is early 70s and this was the perfect place for us both to stay. The hotel is perfect to walk straight to the shops and enjoy bath from – a brilliant central location. We both drove there from opposite ends of the country and the parking they provide is a lot cheaper than paying to park elsewhere in the city so worth booking in advance! The staff are what really make this place though, so friendly and interesting. they are just exceptional.

“Weekend Break in Bath, at the Royal Hotel – Just what we needed!”

We (the wife and I) arrived at the Royal Hotel on the Friday at around 1915. We parked just up the road at the Manvers Street car park (just as the chap on the phone had explained). We were greeted by a lovely lady who was really helpful and got us checked in swiftly and even made sure we had a booking at the Restaurant. Our room (204) was a Deluxe room and was clean and well decorated, spacious and well dressed, not brand new by any stretch but clean all the same. The bathroom had everything you would need for a couple of nights. We hot footed it back downstairs to get some food, where our hostess was also really helpful and explained the ‘deal’ we had etc. My Sirloin was very good, cooked well and tasted great (I am normally so disappointed with steaks that I never bother, I am glad I went for the Sirloin this time!!) The wife had the Salmon, which was very good also. Desserts were pretty good too, well we didn’t leave a lot! The beds were comfortable, and the double glazing did a good job of blocking the noise out on a busy Friday night in Bath! Saturday was a quieter evening however! Breakfast was good, lots of choice on the menu and lots to have a go at. If anything you could eat too much! The coffee was good to. The hotel is so close the compact centre of Bath and everything is a stone’s throw from the hotel. I would recommend the Royal to anyone who needs a decent ‘period’ hotel that is run by a nice bunch of people! Thanks for the stay

“Very good hotel”

Excellent location opposite the railway station and close to town centre. Room was very clean and well appointed. Reception staff friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good and we didn’t experience any delays in the dining room. Would definitely stay again and recommend.

“Fantastic service and great staff.”

I have stayed at this hotel twice in the last month. Reception staff are efficient and pleasant. Rooms are spotless clean and well furnished . I was booked in for BB. Can safely say that the breakfast was excellent everything you would want including a freshly cooked full English breakfast and lots of coffee with great service. Enjoyed a couple of drinks at the well stocked bar again with great service. Overall a lovely place to stay and location fantastic . I would guess that the General Manager was a guy called Mike as he seems to be there 24/7 and certainly leads by example with the other staff.

“Fantastic stay at a lovely hotel in a beautiful town”

My short stay at the Royal Hotel was, in a word, fantastic. Being in Bath just for one night, the Royal Hotel’s central location was ideal. It allowed me to easily visit the towns historic local attractions and excellent shops, which are all just a short walk away. During my stay I had breakfast, lunch and dinner in the hotel’s restaurant and bar. Each meal was wonderful, I particularly enjoyed the steak I had for dinner. My room was extremely large and comfortable. It was decorated in a fashion that reflects the feel and design of the building, which I thought was an excellent touch. The bathroom was equally as impressive in terms of its decor. All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Royal Hotel. I’m sure I will return!

“Great friendly staff, lovely room and great food!”

My friend and I stayed at The Royal Hotel Sept 10th for 1 night for a shopping trip, combined with attending a course in Bath! The staff were really friendly right from the start and gave us a lovely spacious twin room which was modern/Victorian in style and well done too! The room was clean and comfortable with all the mod cons you’d need! We had a deal when booking direct with the hotel of a rate that included dinner and breakfast as we didn’t want to worry about searching around a city we had not been to before it seemed a great option and was very reasonable. We were able to choose 3 courses off of the A la Carte menu and the standard of the food was pleasantly surprising! We had a lovely meal and the portion sizes were more than adequate! Overnight was comfortable but a little noisy outside with the window open at night but as I travel with earplugs this didn’t bother me and my friend didn’t hear it at all! Breakfast was lovely and what a choice! We were full, rested and ready for our course! The hotel staff kindly offered to look after our cases until we had finished so as not to leave them on show in the car, which was kind! All in all a great hotel in a central position, right opposite the train station, not that I heard any trains! And close to the Baths/ pump room and shops! We’ve both agreed we would defiantly head straight for this hotel in the future!

“So so wonderful”

I stayed here last weekend with my boyfriend and I will stay there again next time I’m in Bath. The staff are superb; really helpful and gave us some fab recommendations. The room was clean and spacious and breakfast also great value for money. I definitely recommended staying here if you want a great location for a great price!

Stayed for a 2 night spar break. The room was clean and bright with all your needs catered for. Meals both evenings were excellent and the location makes this hotel a perfect choice. I will choose this hotel again when I return to Bath.

“Another great visit”

We went back to the Royal Hotel for the 4th or 5th time. As before the staff were friendly, helpful, polite and welcoming. We stayed in room 311 on the 3rd floor. The weather was hot and sticky, so it was good to find a big fan in our room, which was very welcome for the hot nights, The room was fairly small, but everything we wanted was there. The bathroom was clean fresh and had free toiletries. Towels were nice and fluffy. Breakfasts were excellent with lots to choose from incl. full English, continental style and cereals etc. Will in the reception was very helpful and friendly. We also met Mike [the Manager] again very nice. The location of the Royal is superb as all local attractions are a short walk away. Bath Spa railway station is across the road. All in all a great experience which we hope to repeat again soon.

“Good Value Hotel”

I spent 2 nights at the Royal Hotel, it was opposite Bath Railway station which I thought might be a problem but I’m glad to say it wasn’t. The staff were all very friendly and helpful, the room was clean and had plenty of coffee tea and water supplied, hairdryer, suit press and fan. The breakfast was good with a nice choice,. Bath is easy to get round by foot so Hotel in a good position for everything and I will be staying there again when I next visit.

TripAdvisor – August 2016

“Relaxing Break”

Stayed at this hotel in June on a 2 night leisure break. The hotel is ideally situated very close to all the main attractions Bath has to offer. The leisure break was at a very competitive rate and included breakfast and 3 course evening meal on both nights and the food was very good. The room was clean and comfortable and would have no hesitation staying at this hotel again the next time we visit Bath.

TripAdvisor – August 2016

“Very convenient, pleasant hotel.”

Right across from Bath Spa railway station, Royal Hotel provided a convenient and comfortable place to stay for a solo female’s time to tour Bath. Helpful and pleasant staff. Very comfortable bed and clean facilities. Breakfast very satisfying. Dinner on Brasserie Brunel tasty and well presented. Made my stay most enjoyable.

“Lovely hotel and staff”

We stayed at the Royal Hotel for a long weekend and really enjoyed it. The staff, both on reception and at breakfast, were more than helpful – and even held our bags for the afternoon after we had checked out. The location was great as well. Despite being across the road from Bath Spa Station, there was little noise and meant we didn’t have to wander far once we had arrived. In terms of proximity to the town, it couldn’t have been better, with everything within quick walking distance.
Would definitely stay again next time I’m in Bath

“Wonderful Service!”

I have so many wonderful things to say about the Royal Hotel in Bath. I ordered a rail pass, which had to be delivered to a UK address, and with assistance from Ellie and Will at the reception desk they helped me arrange to have it delivered to the hotel prior to my arrival. When we did arrive, the receptionist (I don’t remember her name, young blonde woman) arranged to hold our luggage until our room was ready and also helped us recover a pair of sunglasses we left in the reception toilets. When we returned after a fun day of site seeing (Bath is gorgeous!) our room was ready. The lift took us to room 113, which is a cozy superior room. The room had small windows and not much of a view, but it made up for that with its quaintness and very comfortable bathtub (how appropriate!). In the morning we had a delicious cooked-to-order breakfast, which was included in our room rate, and they held our luggage again while we took a day trip out to Stonehenge and the Cotswolds. When it was time to return to the hotel to collect our luggage and continue on to our next destination, things couldn’t have been more convenient! They quickly retrieved our luggage and we merely crossed the street to enter the train station (the bus station is right across the street as well). We felt so welcome every minute we spent at the Royal Hotel and I am so thankful I found this hotel when looking for a place to stay in Bath. If you’re looking for a cute place to stay with a great location and excellent staff, I highly recommend this hotel!

“We love this hotel! Great staff, excellent location, wonderful rooms….”

We stayed for two nights the first time and enjoyed it so much we came back for one night the second time when we needed a hotel. The first time, I emailed the reception to let them know we would be arriving late. Much to my surprise, when we walked in the door, the receptionist, Heidi, greeted us by name and said she had been expecting us. I’ve never had this type of warm reception before. The hotel is just across the street from the train station and diagonally across the street from the bus station. Since we arrived by train, it only took us 2 minutes to get to the hotel. Along with it’s excellent location to public transport, is is right across the street from an outdoor shopping mall and about a 5 minute walk to the baths and the Abbey. Everything is pretty much within walking distance. It goes without saying that there are many restaurants either across the street or within an easy walk, although the Royal serves a full breakfast included in the price. The rooms we were in were tastefully decorated and the beds comfortable. There are all kinds of amenities like bath gel, sewing kit, stain remover, cookies, etc. The room was well appointed and the bathroom very clean. I noticed some other reviews complained about noise and not being able to sleep but we were in a room right at the corner of two busy streets and had no problem. When we came back the second time Heidi remembered us and once again gave us a friendly greeting. She quickly checked us in as she had all our info from our prior visit. The rates are reasonable, and you can book the room to include breakfast, breakfast and dinner and /or a spa experience. We both felt the hotel went above and beyond to ensure a good stay. If we ever have the chance to come through Bath again, we’d definitely stay here, and only here!

“Anniversary stay”

From the moment we booked in, until we booked out, we received the best of service. We stopped in 114 a four poster room, which looked out over the front towards the railway station. Room was spotless and beautiful. We were on a DBB package, and our evening meal in the Brasserie was superb. We will definitely be back again.

We have just got back from our 3 day stay at the Royal. The room was just as we expected . Lovely comfortable bed and great facilities lovely high ceilings loved the squeaky floorboards. just how a building of that age should be.. The food at the restaurant was top stuff, recommend the steak. The breakfast was plentiful with a good choice of different dishes. The staff were very polite and helpful. A special thank you to Will for looking after us and to Heidi for her help and to Mike who for a day and a half I called him John. Lol sorry really. Would recommend staying at this very traditional hotel ..loved it and we will be returning very soon…cheers to all the staff at the Royal…hope to see you all soon…

“Lovely Hotel”

This hotel is perfect for a stay in Bath. Not only is it only a few minutes walk from the city centre, but if you are arriving by train you come out of the main station exit and the hotel is just across the road. The staff are really friendly and helpful. It was no problem to store our case when we arrived a couple of hours before check-in time and again on the day we left as we were travelling home in the evening. The tea and coffee tray also had hot chocolate (my partner’s favourite drink) and ground coffee as well as instant, so that I could have a really good pot of coffee. The breakfast was excellent with cold items on the buffet and the hot items ordered separately and cooked fresh. We would definitely stay here again.

“Exceeds Expectations”

We spent 2 nights in a Family room earlier this week. Staff are all very friendly, efficient and pleasant. We enjoyed the Breakfasts and Dinners. Good quality food freshly prepared and nicely presented. Pleased to see fresh fruit at Breakfast, boxed cereals and hot breakfast cooked to order. Good menu for Dinner, and very reasonably priced. Very convenient location and we parked in the Car Park which is down a side road just past the Hotel. The car park only takes 6 cars, so book it if you need it, to be sure to get a space. Easy level walk to city centre, then a bit uphill to some of the shops and attractions past the Baths. Lots of very positive aspects for a 3 star Hotel. There were three of us and we actually had three towels, glasses, cups and biscuits in the room! Stayed in so many Hotels where they seem to not know how many occupants they are expecting! Good stock of quality teas/coffee/chocolate, a teapot, and fresh coffee and a cafetiere, bottled water and biscuits. Replenished daily. A good find for a reasonably priced stay.

We arrived by train and the hotel is just across the street from the station. Nice looking form the outside – inviting on the inside. Desk staff was friendly and very helpful with advice around the town and with some business computing needs. We opted for a four poster room – well worth the up charge. Beautiful and very comfortable bed. Large, well appointed room. Only a few blocks from the Roman bath and abbey. Included breakfast was very good and served in an attractive dining room.

Just returned from a weekend break with friends. The hotel is really quaint. Wonky floors and doors in the room but spotlessly clean. Lovely fresh linen and soft white towels. The rooms aren’t the biggest but not a problem. The food was excellent especially the steaks. The breakfast freshly cooked and a great choice of non-cooked also. The staff were really friendly and helpful. Have booked for another trip later in the year already and cannot wait!

Just returned from 2 nights at the Royal Hotel Bath. Perfectly placed for sightseeing and car parking was available at a small charge. All the staff were lovely and went out of their way to make our stay perfect. Food was really good and, although the decor in bedroom was a little tired it was spotlessly clean and all the bed linen and towels were of a very high quality. The tea tray was one of the best we have had in any hotel. All in all a fabulous hotel which we shall certainly return to. Thank you Royal Hotel for a lovely stay!

We booked through TripAdvisor and could not believe the value we had for the amount we paid. Above and beyond that we were treated with courtesy by all members of staff who were very friendly. Our room was just as you should expect for a hotel of this age. It was clean and comfortable with some very nice touches which included the facility to make ground coffee and a chocolate on the pillow! The food was very good and well presented with an excellent selection at breakfast. There was a good selection of wines and beer. The hotel is perfectly situated for visitors arriving by rail or coach and ideal for a visit to all tourist attractions in Bath.

“Great old fashioned hotel by Bath station”

Very welcoming staff. We had booked through travel zoo and had a 2 day package of bed, breakfast, evening meal and also a cream tea and champagne for dinner on the first day. We booked the 4 poster bedroom for a bit extra, which was beautifully decorated and furnished if you don’t mind old fashioned bathrooms with a shower over the bath. Bed was very comfortable. There are only 6 parking spaces which had already been reserved but it was very easy to get local parking as it is free from 8pm until 8am and the parking ticket was very easy to pay for. Food was very good, great choice for breakfast and the dinners a wide selection from starters of mussels, asparagus, quiche, salad etc, to mains of salmon, steaks, chicken etc. All were well cooked and beautifully presented. Would definitely recommend this hotel. Free wifi which worked very well.

“Excellent Three Star Hotel with Four * Touches”

My wife had visited in December with a number of girlfriends as part of a Christmas market package which all the girls thought was great value so when we received a promotional email she booked for us to go back. We booked the two night Bed, Breakfast, Evening Meal and Cream Tea with Champagne Breaks and we will be visiting the Royal again!! Ideally situated across the road from Bath Spa station (not noisy) and more or less five / seven minutes walk from the Abbey and centre. From the initial booking over the phone with (the ever helpful) Heidi and very good welcome on arrival, the room (we did go for a slightly larger Superior) at a small added cost was perfect. Clean and recently refurbished with chocolate on the bed, nice touch. Bathrobes and a plentiful supply of teas, coffee, biscuits etc, and FREE wifi which worked! Evening menu choices very good, with plenty of choice for veggies, presented and cooked very well with excellent service. A nice touch here, my wife had the trout and without asking a small plate appeared to place the skin and bones, and…..proper cloth napkins! Breakfast, again very good with a nice choice of teas and hot and cold dishes, NOT a buffet, but served at the table and still with cloth napkins. All the staff very helpful and housekeeping excellent, so as per my earlier comments we will be back.

“Fab place fab location 5 stars”

What a delightful place! Ideally located bang opposite the train station and a stones throw from the centre. Especially important if you’re only staying for one night. Lovely warm welcome from the hospitable helpful staff; the room was spacious – high ceilings and old fashioned decor – so homely and inviting adding to the ambience.. Tea and coffee making facilities in the room. Comfy beds. Our room overlooked the street so if you specifically want a quiet room ask for one at the back. The deal was superb. We booked directly and got an amazing deal – dinner bed breakfast -high tea and even fruit in the room and chocolates on the bed !! The food was wonderful and very nicely presented. Healthy options too- so fish dishes and light starters ( asparagus particularly good) the breakfast was equally good full of variety and no extra charges like some hotels if you’re having the scrambled eggs and salmon. What a find! Difficult to fault- but would definitely advise reserving parking (we didn’t) parking is not easy in Bath. All in all a lovely time . Management and staff uber accommodating. Will be back. 5 stars

Our third stay at the Royal Hotel to celebrate our anniversary, we have a loyalty card and stayed on a winter break package (I recommend booking this direct). “Great venue from which to enjoy Bath”

Lovely hotel with a feel of “class” and luxury which ties in well with a visit to a place like Bath. The location is great in that it is opposite the station so no car worries! It is very handy for walking around all the sites and attractions within the city centre such as the Roman Baths and the Royal Crescent. Despite its proximity to the station the rooms were very quiet. We ate dinner in the hotel restaurant, The Bistro and enjoyed it . The food was a good standard and plentiful. Bar prices reasonable. Breakfast was included in the price of the room and again we were very pleased with it. Staff were extremely helpful – on the bar , on the reception and in the restaurant. An interesting and historic hotel in that it was designed by Brunel when the station was constructed. An enjoyable place to stay. We will return!

“Great stay!”

Real gem of a place. Right in front of the train station and main roads, but it was so quite. Loved the wall paper, it was so authentic and quirky. Good breakfasts. Great service, was allowed to leave the suitcases in the reception before the check in opened, and after checking out.

“A fantastic hotel, a real gem with great staff”

This would be my 2nd stay with the hotel, seeing a friend locally and staying over. It’s right you need to ask re the car park because the spaces are very limited but last time I stayed I missed out so parked opposite in the shopping complex, 5 min walk, no problem.A really warm welcome from reception who explained about the loyalty card to me! what a great idea!First time I stayed I had a single room, last time a double, both excellent in size, very clean and nice little extra touches like a ‘proper coffee’ maker was pleasing. Nice relaxing bar area, good selection, reasonably priced. Breakfast is a real joy here, service again spot on, choice and quality to a really high standard. I needed to do a couple of hours work on the laptop so asked if there was a quieter room I could work from and they opened up a function room which wasn’t being used- perfect! This hotel does everything it says it will plus a lot more, the basics are done very well and the staff are warm and very efficient. Well done.

“First class stay”

My partner and I booked a three day spa break at the Royal Hotel for New Year. The hotel was absolutely first class. We were greeted by exceptionally friendly staff, who were so helpful. Our room was immaculate, fresh, bright and clean with a lovely comfortable bed. The en-suite was beautiful, fluffy white towels, with nice toiletries and under floor heating, which was a real comfort especially after stepping out of the shower! Ideally situated, this hotel was just a few minutes walk from all the attractions and literally just over the road from the station! The breakfast menu offered a tasty buffet of fresh fruit, cereals, yoghurt, croissants, followed by a choice from the hot menu, including Full English, Eggs Benedict, smoked haddock to name but a few. This came with plenty of hot toast and a fresh pot of tea or cafetiere of coffee. We also had a lovely 3 course meal in the brasserie and a lovely champagne cream tea. I would highly recommend this hotel and most definitely would stay there again!

The best stay in our ten-day vacation around the South of England”

We stayed at the Royal hotel in Bath for two nights in September 2015. Pros: Brilliant location, just in front of the train station (you only have to cross the street) and only 5-10 minutes away from the city centre. Big room. Very clean. Comfy mattress. Sockets near the bed for charging your mobile phones (have you noticed that lots of hotels don’t have them, forcing you to leave your phone at the table, for example, and then you have to get up from the bed to stop the alarm in the morning? Yeah, I know, it’s just a minor trouble, but I find it really inconvenient!). Free bottled water and cookies, as well as tea, coffee and hot chocolate. Very, very kind and helpful staff. Great shower, with a good pressure and no filthy curtains but a neat shower screen! Yay! Tasty breakfast with lots of cold and hot choices. Strong and free WiFi literally everywhere, not just the common areas. Cons: Nothing I can think about it. Well, it’s much expensive than we are used to pay for a hotel, but it’s totally worth it. Practical tips: Lift to all floors. Totally wheelchair-friendly. Overall: Without any doubt, the best stay in our ten-day vacation around the South of England. We would totally repeat and recommend!

“Small, friendly and central”

Stayed overnight in a comfortable room, though, slightly noisy as on the front of the hotel. Reception staff in particular were very friendly and accommodating. I particularly liked that the restaurant wasn’t too big so there was no hanging about at breakfast, and the selection was fresh and varied. Centre of Bath and shops were easy to walk to.

“Weekend away in Bath”

Group of us (10 in total) stayed here for a weekend break. Fantastic service – Heidi and Ellie especially – everyone was made to feel welcome and nothing was too much trouble. The package deal we had was amazing value including a delicious champagne cream tea and a 2 hour session at the Thermae Spa. Dinner on Friday night was superb and breakfast was very good, offering a huge choice. Rooms were clean and comfy. Ellie brought me and my room mate a heater as our first floor room was chilly as heating hadn’t yet come on. Will definitely recommend this package and hotel to others. Location was also great, just across from the station and easily within reach of the sights and shops. We all had an amazing time and hope to come back to The Royal again!

This is a great little hotel, very friendly and the staff could not be more helpful. Clean with character and had everything you could want. Beds very comfortable and the breakfast and evening meal were very good, freshly cooked and hot. Service also very efficient. We would definitely return here if we were visiting Bath again and certainly recommend it to others. Can’t fault it.

“One of the best hotels we have stayed in”

We always look forward to going back to this hotel. Staff are fantastic and go above and beyond to help, special thanks to Will, Marion and Maureen. Rooms are spacious and immaculately clean. The hotel is in an old building and has the odd creaky floorboard and traditional features, it all adds to the charm of the place. Food is great, the breakfast is freshly cooked and not to be missed. Service is good and staff are very polite and very friendly. Parking is very limited but you can park on the station car park opposite. We have left our car there and it seems quite safe. A great base to explore from. There is free WiFi in the rooms.

“2015 England tour”

I stayed at a variety of hotels throughout southern England, and the Royal Hotel in Bath was by far my favorite. The room was spacious (compared to the tiny London hotel rooms), the staff was extremely friendly and helpful, and it was a great place to serve as a base of operations for a few days. I would love to return some day.

“Going back soon”

Had a fantastic few days in Bath, all centred around our stay at this delightful hotel. The experience got off to a good start even before arrival when I rang ahead to discuss my booking with Heidi. She proved most helpful including explaining I could reserve a parking bay at £8.25 a day – which proved an excellent decision, we parked up and walked for the entire stay. Heidi also helped plan the bouquet of flowers I wanted for my girlfriend, quizzing me on favourite flowers and colours. On arrival we were greeted by Heidi whose genuine charm is immediately evident. She had no idea who we were at first but was so naturally welcoming. Once I gave our name she clearly realised but gave nothing away. She helped explain the process around our Spa and champagne tea (excellent) gave us a map and a local reward card which we used to obtain some discounts during our stay. She also gave pointers on recommended places to visit. As my girlfriend went up in the lift with the luggage and I turned to use the a stairs Heidi gave me a wink and assured me “everything’s sorted!” On arrival at our room we found it spacious and tasteful. My girlfriend was thrilled with how plush it was and then noticed the large beautiful bouquet of flowers incorporating her favourite colours and flowers, and the bottle of fizz chilling in an ice bucket. There was even a happy birthday messages spelt out in Bendicks mints in the bed. A really nice touch from Heidi. I found the bed remarkably comfortable, the shower was good and the array of teas and coffee – real coffee and a cafetiere, most welcomed. The room was well presented clean and tidy and we were given fresh towels daily. The room overlooked Manvers street and it was busy with traffic, this wasn’t a problem for us as we live on a main road. There is secondary glazing to help reduce the noise. All the staff were pleasant and helpful, but a special mention for Heidi and Ellie on reception who were both so helpful and infectiously cheerful. We didn’t have a main meal in the restaurant but we had breakfast daily, sampling different breakfasts each day, all superb. I have no doubt the evening meal will be every bit as delicious. We actually asked to stay an extra night but sadly the hotel was fully booked, testament to its popularity and success. I would have no problem in recommending this hotel to anyone and will be returning. Many thanks to all at the Royal for contributing to a successful mini break in Bath which got me lots of brownie points with my lady!

I have stayed here a few times before and just love it. This trip I have just called in for a drink and a meal. The service from the barman just excellent, the food outstanding as always. “Posher Than Our Usual Weekend Break Hotels”

Lovely hotel, staff, decor and location. I contacted them a few days before to make sure we had reserved parking, which was organised already. I managed to get a bottle of fizz in an ice bucket for my Wife’s birthday surprise, waiting in our room on arrival. Good breakfasts and I also asked them to put it on a tray that I took up to the room, for her Ladyship’s breakfast in bed treat.

Firstly I want to say a big thank you to the lady who arranged our stay with my wife on the 24th August from the 26th for 3 nights nothing was a problem on the phone. Right the check in was perfect nice Scots gentleman checked us in then off to our room. PERFECT is how I would describe it, lovely room with loads of space, massive TV and really nice bathroom. Also a big thank you to the cleaning staff who put a big 50 WITH CHOCS on the bed as it’s my birthday. We have just got back from a nice meal in the lovely restaurant. So we are off to explore more of Bath tomorrow which is a beautiful place and well worth the drive from Cumbria.

“Short Family Break”

The ethos of this hotel is evident from the outset. Warm, welcoming, obliging staff – nothing is too much trouble. This with the highly convenient location makes a trip to the beautiful and historic city so easy. The major highlight has to be the dining. The restaurant service is very friendly and accommodating but above and beyond this the food is truly superb. It has been a very long time since we as a family if six (4 children aged 12-6) have elected to stay in the hotel restaurant for dinner. The children did not want to go anywhere else to eat even when offered the usual chain restaurants. Thank you all at the Royal for looking after us and ensuring we will want to come back to you! Thank you also to Renaldo, Mike and Patrick.

“Wonderful few days”

We spent 5 nights here recently. We were in room 303 and were very happy with it. I should mention that the floor boards were a bit creaky. It didn’t bother us but I hope the people underneath weren’t disturbed. The bathroom had obviously been refurbished recently and the whole room was immaculately clean. The bed was very comfortable and the (free) wifi was strong enough to watch Netflix on the iPad. The tray with coffee, tea and biscuits was greatly appreciated. The lift is tiny, but this is an old building and we appreciated not having to climb the stairs. For us it added to the charm of the hotel. We liked it much better than some of the more modern hotels we’ve stayed in and was truly English. The breakfasts were excellent. I had poached haddock and eggs for 3 of the 5 days and eggs Benedict on the other 2. The ham underneath the poached eggs was delicious and obviously carved from a joint. The wait staff looked very smart and clean in their uniforms and were very efficient. Nothing was too much trouble. We ate in the bar a couple of times and that was very good too. The barman soon got to know what we were drinking and was very friendly. It is in a perfect position if you are travelling by train. We never heard any noise, except for noisy birds in the morning, but we always travel with earplugs. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

“Excellent stay”

I only stayed for one night but was so impressed with the hotel. I had a single room and was expecting some poky room for a solo guest but no the room was great and even though was opposite the train station it was really quiet at night and I had a great nights sleep in a very comfortable bed, which in fact, was not even a single bed!! The little extras made a difference…..very nice shower gel and shampoo, a coffee perculator, good selection of teas and decaff coffee and a mug rather than a cup!! Hairdryer was also provided in the room as well as trouser press , iron and ironing board…..great. The breakfast was really good with a great choice offered. All in all I would highly recommend this hotel, I will definitely use again should I be in Bath again.

“Charming place!”

I was here for a reunion with old friends. A room for three was a great size, the breakfast was enough to keep going until dinner time and the ground coffee and cafetiere in the room was a bonus!! A very central location for a unique wee place. After check out we were sitting in the bar waiting for our transport when I commented to staff that we had a great stay and the place/staff couldn’t have been nicer-overheard by the owner……we were brought two complimentary glasses of champagne. A lovely ending to a fab weekend away.

Great value & location”

A great place to stay, superb location opposite the train station with all sites & attractions within easy walking distance. Really friendly, accommodating staff especially the blonde girl on reception (sorry, I never did get her name) very bubbly, happy & informative. We complained about a noise outside our room all night & were moved to another without any fuss (turned out a fan in the kitchen had been left on by accident!) They even moved our case for us while we were out & about. Our room was so so comfy, we were in danger of spending most of the day asleep! This Hotel is full of ‘old charm’ and ‘warmth’ & personality. If you want impersonal, stainless steel functional accommodation then this is not for you – try a Travelodge instead! Great breakfast menu and great food/service & fast free WiFi. Would stay here again on our next visit to Bath

“Excellent in all services and location”

Stayed at this hotel on a Robinsons coach holiday. From the time we arrived to the time we left nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff to make your stay welcome. Could not fault room which was clean and comfortable. Food was excellent with plenty of choice plus what suited us was the fact that you could reserve your time to dine for evening meal which does not always apply on these sort of holidays would not hesitate to recommend to family and friends. “Great location and brilliant service”

I recently stayed at the Royal Bath with 3 friends in 2 twin rooms. The hotel is situated opposite the train station making it superbly located for getting around the centre. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left the staff were wonderful, special mentions should go to Heidi at the front desk and especially the housekeeping team who upon seeing the bottle of Prosecco we had left out ready for the evening ahead, put it in an ice bucket so it would stay cold. The hotel is an old building so don’t go expecting a modern vibe. Instead you have lovely building with good sized rooms but with some features you would expect from an older building like narrow stairs and uneven landings. Both rooms booked by our party were spacious, clean and well maintained. We especially liked the large selection of teas and fresh coffee in the room and the free WIFI. Breakfast is also great value with a good selection of freshly cooked dishes in addition to continental buffet. We had a brilliant weekend and will definitely be booking the hotel for our next trip to Bath.

“Really welcoming with excellent service”

This hotel is very handily situated opposite the train station in Bath and we stayed here for two very comfortable nights. The room was clean and light with a lovely selection of teas, fresh coffee and hot chocolate, and curtains were thick enough to give a restful nights sleep. Hotel has lots of quirky, original features – including creaky floorboards and stairs that are slightly uneven, but there is a two person lift. Hotel staff are extremely welcoming and were very accommodating with changes required to breakfast menu. Breakfast itself was very good. Housekeeping even provided us with an ice bucket upon spotting a bottle of Prosecco in our friends room. As we had a couple of hours before our train after check-out, the hotel were able to store our luggage too. I thoroughly recommend The Royal Hotel for a stay in Bath – we will definitely be staying on our next visit.

“Great hotel”

We came here as part of a package deal with the spa tickets and were impressed by the large, modern bathroom and neat, clean room. Those saying the rooms are dated – they are purposely decorated in keeping with the age of the building. The restaurant is very nice, and the staff are very friendly and polite. The location is perfect, a 5 minute walk from the centre (or less) and the baths and abbey. Price very reasonable.

“Amazing weekend, great hotel!”

I’ve just returned from a Spa Break weekend at the Royal Hotel. We booked two nights, with breakfast, evening meal, cream tea and a 2 hour session at the Thermae Bath Spa. I stayed with my four sister in law’s and we stayed in two rooms, one triple one twin. Good comfy rooms, tea/coffee making facilities and an en suite shower/bathroom all on the3rd floor. There is a lift, but was out of order after one day of our visit. Not a problem for us, as we could do with the exercise! We had a very friendly welcome, the staff are very helpful and informative. Nothing was too much trouble. We had our evening meal, a three course of delicious offerings, served by charming staff, who were very efficient and also friendly and cheerful. We all had a good night’s sleep on comfy beds and had a generous choice on the breakfast menu. Everything was perfect. On Saturday afternoon, after a lot of shopping, we returned to the hotel for our cream tea. Big fruit scones, thick cream and strawberry jam was served, along with plenty of tea. Again, top notch. After that had settled, we left for our Spa visit. There was a queue, busy being a Saturday, with a waiting time of about an hour, but the time passed quite quickly and before we knew it, we were given our robes, slippers, changed and up onto the Open Air Rooftop Pool, steam rooms and Minerva Bath for a two hour time slot. Really brilliant and most enjoyable, even though the sky was clouded up and spitting with rain. The water is so beautifully warm, it didn’t matter. Highly recommended. We then returned to have our dinner, yet again, beautiful food, I had the asparagus for starters, plaice for mains and mango syllabub for dessert. All delicious. I don’t live far from Bath, but it was a wonderful weekend and would recommend this hotel, it’s food, staff, rooms and the spa to anyone. Well worth every penny. The Royal Hotel should be very proud of its staff, from reception, restaurant staff and housekeeping who are an excellent team

“Exceptional!”

My friend Jane & I stayed at the Royal Hotel on the Travelzoo deal from 24th to 26th March 2015. For just under £150 each we got B & B – delicious breakfast with lots to choose from, a glass of champagne, afternoon cream tea & a 3 course evening meal on all 3 days. The food was excellent, the room was lovely, very clean, light & spacious, comfy beads & pillows, with little extras like chocolates on the pillow, a bowl of fruit & bottles of mineral water. The tray in the room had all kinds of teas, hot chocolate, a tea pot ( not just cups ) fresh & instant coffee, a cafetiere & biscuits. Even the loo rolls were good quality – not the usual thin stuff ! The staff were so friendly & helpful which helped to make our little break so enjoyable. This hotel is obviously very well run. The location couldn’t be better – very close to all the delights of Bath !

March 2015 – TripAdvisor

“Fantastic!”

Have to agree with all the fellow contributors – this hotel is excellent value on the Travelzoo deal with all the extra goodies but apart from that we really appreciated the cheerful and helpful staff. We arrived by train at 10.30am and they offered to store our luggage while we were free to enjoy another good point about this hotel – it’s location immediately opposite the train station and 2 minute walk to the centre of Bath. Our room at the back of the hotel on the second floor was clean, quiet and well stocked with teas, coffees, biscuits and even bowl of fresh fruit. Breakfast and evening meal were very enjoyable, good quality produce, plenty of choice, efficient friendly service. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

“A Great Deal”

We had a wonderful overnight stay at the Royal. Our deal included afternoon cream tea, 3 course a la carte dinner with a glass of champagne and a full breakfast – what value for money! Food was great. Our room was warm, clean, very comfortable and surprisingly quiet and we slept very well. The whole hotel was comfortable and all the staff friendly and helpful. So well situated near the station and on the edge of the pedestrianised shopping area with easy access to the Abbey and Baths (old and modern). An added bonus was a hotel parking space valid until 13.00 All very enjoyable and we hope to see you again!

“Pleasant and welcoming”

Stayed one night as part of a deal with the Spa close by. Its an old building, with plenty of character and history, and some of that manifests itself in a few quirky features, high ceilings, some odd layouts and a few squeaky floorboards…but none of that was a negative. The room was clean and fresh and whilst it looks reasonably recently decorated, it does have style in keeping with the age of the building…again no bad thing, but that’s its style. Staff were very welcoming, friendly and polite and we partook of evening meal and breakfast in Brunel’s bistro. Very pleasant meal complimentary glass of fizz (always a nice touch), steak cooked to perfection and an excellent brownie with ice cream to finish off. I’d probably had a prejudiced pre-conception when looking at it from the outside, but it ticked all the boxed and I’d stay there again.

“A most pleasant first stay in Bath”

My daughter was called to audition at Bath Spa university, the trip from Jersey necessitated an overnight stay in Bath – a city unknown to me. I decided that proximity to the railway station was a must, in order to minimise travel by taxi around an unfamiliar town. The Royal was chosen, and the location really is right opposite the railway station! Cross the road at the pedestrian crossing and the door is right there. I did have initial concerns about the closeness of a busy road with a high frequency of bus transport, this concern was unfounded as the room was double glazed and very quiet. In addition to the peace and quiet of the room, standard tea and coffee facilities, trouser press, television and an ironing board were all present. The staff were welcoming and friendly, an attitude we encountered almost everywhere in Bath (except for one unhelpful bus driver). Breakfast in the restaurant was a real pleasure, everything that could be wished for.The full English, piping hot and delicious. The pastries, which my daughter seriously demolished, were excellent. All in all a very comfortable and pleasant hotel. Following our return home my daughter received an offer of a place at the university, so it looks like we will be regular guests at the hotel for the next couple of years.

“Excellent value”

As others have said….we stayed on a deal from travel zoo but I would have paid more. Staff helpful ,friendly, excellent all round. Food very good wine a reasonable price. Lovely to have fresh fruit in the room. Comfortable beds and pillows. Tea and coffee in the room very good. Location very good as we arrived by train. Close to all the sights and shops. Some noise at night but that is to be expected given the location. Highly recommend to all.

“The welcoming smile”

The hotel is one of our favourites; when we enter we are greeted with a warm and welcoming smile which is an attitude typical of all the staff. The hotel, which is not modern and impersonal, exudes this approach. Being close to the station it is handy for travellers but there was no noise from trains. Breakfasts were great and set us up for the day.

“Very enjoyable stay”

I bought this stay as a Travelzoo deal and it included 3 course meal with champagne, breakfast and a cream tea. We were not disappointed. The room although small was perfectly adequate. The evening meal was delicious, the cream tea scones were fab, the breakfast has so much choice and the hotel and all its staff were courteous friendly & professional. It’s in a prime location for the station, the roman baths, the crescent and the centre of Bath. We did the bus tour which although informative was probably not money well spent as we could walk to all areas easily. The Royal Crescent has lovely photo opportunities and the Georgian house was very interesting. I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel and would certainly stay there again. All in all a lovely stay…only regret was we didn’t take the 2 night option !

“Excellent for all travel links, Bath Spa Railway Station & Bus Station right across the road.”

Second trip down to The Royal Hotel. A certain website were doing a promotion which included dinner, bed & breakfast at this hotel. We flew down from Scotland to Bristol Airport and took the bus from the airport into Bath, the hotel is less than a minutes walk from the A4 direct service from the airport, the train station is even closer. The food is fantastic, if you are doing dinner, bed & breakfast you must check out the steaks on the menu (also check out the cream teas in the afternoon!!!). The Staff are very helpful and friendly. The rooms are very clean – A very well located hotel as close as possible to the main rail and bus links. You shouldn’t be disappointed.

“Amazing”

A beautiful hotel with plenty of character, our room was of a very good standard, spacious clean, comfortable and well decorated. The staff were friendly and welcoming at all times. The restaurant is well worth a visit even if not staying in the hotel as the food was amazing. Will definitely visit this hotel again.

“Beautiful historical building”

Upon arrival the first huge advantage I noticed was how close this hotel is to the station – ideal if you are travelling by train and are carrying quite a bit of luggage! The hotel is a Grade II listed Victorian building and it’s so full of charm – it’s clearly a little dated i.e. creaky floorboards, old-fashioned wallpaper, etc. but I found this to be in keeping with the building itself and they’re just minor details. We stayed in a 4-poster room, which was spacious and just beautiful. All furniture within the room was made of wood and I really felt like I was staying in a different era! The bathroom however was modern and slick which I was very happy with (an old-fashion bathroom is not really a treat). Cleanliness was great – no complaints on that front either. I would definitely recommend this room for special occasions. The pricing was very reasonable and all-in-all it was great value for money. The staff were friendly and helpful in giving us directions. We did not have any food on site, but other reviews suggest this is also up to scratch. Again, location is key with this hotel – it’s very close to all amenities. Its located right opposite a square where you can go and enjoy a coffee or some breakfast in the morning (there’s small bakery there), and all the main shopping streets are only a few minutes walk away. Despite the hotel being near the train station and a road, it was surprisingly quite and the noise pollution was really not as bad as I thought it would be! We were wanting to stay here a second night, but unfortunately it was full (this is a good sign, especially as it was a weekday)! Would love to come back here one day…Thank you!

“Bath 2015”

This hotel is in a great location, could not be any closer to the station if you travelling by train, and is close to many attractions. Hotel itself had a great deal of old school charm and we loved the Brunel design. Staff were friendly and helpful, room was a decent size, and breakfast was delicious. Would go back, and definitely recommend it.

“Travelzoo midweek special”

Great location literally step outside the station and cross the road. Lovely hotel, very friendly staff, great service. Had the breakfast and evening meal promotion, both of which were superb and great value for money. Will definitely be returning.

“Valentines and a Cyder Festival”

We’ve just returned from a weekend in Bath celebrating Valentines and what a weekend it was!!! Briefly the Cyder Festival was good!! OK enough of that, our stay at the Royal was without doubt the highlight of the weekend, easy to find, very clean and comfortable and the staff without doubt the most friendly and professional I’ve come across in the whole of the Bath & Bristol area. They are a credit to the Manager and the Company. The Hotel is conveniently located right opposite the train station but we weren’t disturbed by the trains. There is plenty of parking close by and it is very close to the town centre with all the attractions one visits Bath for. This will certainly be somewhere we will revisit and look forward too!!

“Excellent location”

My wife and I visit Bath almost every year, but this was the first time we actually stayed in a hotel in the city. The hotel was in an ideal location right outside the train station and at the entry to the main city streets (actually opposite Debenhams department store). The staff were very friendly on our arrival. Our room was spacious and quite exceptional for a small hotel with a large bed and full ensuite bathroom. Room was at the back on the upper floors which was quiet later in the night (no noise from the street). Their room rate included breakfast and for the price, it was worth the money. A good hotel in a very good location. We will definitely stay here again

“One night stay”

A really enjoyable stay at the hotel, wish we had booked for two nights instead of one. Very friendly staff, comfortable room and excellent meals. Opposite the station but we could barely hear the trains or traffic outside. We hope to stay there again soon

“A lovely 2 night stay”

We had a lovely 2 night break on the 11th Feb, with breakfast and a 3 course evening meal , excellent value .The staff were all lovely helpful and friendly .The food was all of good quality & presented to a high standard , the desserts were amazing especially the chocolate brownie with white chocolate & cherry ice cream . Breakfast menu had a very varied choice and was buffet for fruit cereals croissants yogurts etc etc and you ordered the main breakfast items and they were cooked fresh for you . Our room was very pleasant remembering you are in a very old historical building , lovely touches were an Ipod docking station plays alarm clock a cafetière with decent coffee and packets of biscuits and bottled water and various different teas & hot chocolate .Lovely toiletries were supplied the room was very clean & comfortable bed & bedding , the room was very hot but you can turn down the radiator , it’s down to preference . The only thing that I was worried about was the creaking floorboards , I was trying to walk without making noise for the occupants below , but give up its impossible it’s all part of being in a beautiful old building creaks and all . Thank you to all the staff I had a fab birthday & enjoyed my stay very much . Last tip apply for a loyalty card before you go , you save 10% off your bill .

“Just as good as I remembered”

This is the second time I’ve stayed at the Royal and it was just as good as I remembered it being. For a start, It’s well located, especially if you’ve come by train, close to shops and sights and Bath’s shops and sights are excellent. The staff are friendly and helpful, the choice and quality of the food was very good throughout my stay and my room (a single this time) was comfortable and well equipped. In short, this is a well run hotel that I would like to recommend

“A perfect two night stay in Bath”

We took advantage of a two night deal inclusive of breakfast and dinner in this lovely Brunel designed building with beautiful dining room. The location is perfect, right opposite Bath Spa station. Our room was lovely and warm with every facility to make our stay comfortable including (and I think all hotels should have this) a docking station for your Ipod – so wonderful to have your favourite music. You can also borrow DVDs for free. The evening meal included in the price is from the al la carte menu and there is a good choice. Not only is the food delicious, the presentation of the dishes is excellent. Breakfast is plentiful and enough to keep you going for hours. Apart from all this which made the deal amazing value for money, the bonus is the lovely staff – everyone we had dealings with, at reception and in the restaurant, couldn’t have been friendlier. Highly recommended.

“A fabulous stay”

Just returned from and overnight stay at the hotel. Managed to get an excellent deal on line to include, cream tea, 3 course dinner and breakfast. Before I arrived I emailed the hotel with a couple of questions and they responded very quick. We arrived early and the hotel happily stored our luggage. First stop was our cream tea which was part of our package. The cream tea was lovely 2 warm scones with clotted cream. Check in was a very pleasant process and the twin room we had booked was so nice. It was the extra touches that made it special. Fruit in the room, a couple of packets of biscuits , a tea pot and cafetière along with quality tea and coffee. The bed linen was of a high quality with feather pillows in the room. Dinner in the restaurant was of a high quality. The waiter was very friendly and again nothing was to much trouble. Whilst waiting for starters we were offered a slice of home made bread which was divine. The food arrived and was looked and tasted amazing and was serviced on piping hot plates. Would definitely recommend the restaurant in your stay at the hotel. The room was quite quiet considering we were next to the road, room was warm with temperature controlled radiators. Breakfast in the morning was a buffet style along with hot food ordered via your waitress. Again the food was of an excellent standard. Overall I can strongly recommend the hotel and restaurant. The staff were so friendly and helpful. The hotel is in a prime spot for using the park and ride for old town stop, just around the corner from the shops and about. 5 min walk to the bath spa.

“Relaxing break”

We stayed at the Royal for a 2 night relaxing break. Great value for money, breakfast and evening meals both very good quality. Rooms are nice and have everything needed for your visit. The hotel is perfectly situated for shopping or sightseeing and great a walk into the city for the nightlife after dinner. Would stay again and recommend to all !!
