What People Say About Us

We receive lots of letters of compliment from guests who have enjoyed their stay at The Royal and the following are some of these comments:-

"Wonderful few days”

We spent 5 nights here recently. We were in room 303 and were very happy with it. I should mention that the floor boards were a bit creaky. It didn't bother us but I hope the people underneath weren't disturbed. The bathroom had obviously been refurbished recently and the whole room was immaculately clean. The bed was very comfortable and the (free) wifi was strong enough to watch Netflix on the iPad. The tray with coffee, tea and biscuits was greatly appreciated. The lift is tiny, but this is an old building and we appreciated not having to climb the stairs. For us it added to the charm of the hotel. We liked it much better than some of the more modern hotels we've stayed in and was truly English. The breakfasts were excellent. I had poached haddock and eggs for 3 of the 5 days and eggs Benedict on the other 2. The ham underneath the poached eggs was delicious and obviously carved from a joint. The wait staff looked very smart and clean in their uniforms and were very efficient. Nothing was too much trouble. We ate in the bar a couple of times and that was very good too. The barman soon got to know what we were drinking and was very friendly. It is in a perfect position if you are travelling by train. We never heard any noise, except for noisy birds in the morning, but we always travel with earplugs. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

"Great Accommodation and Location”

Great accommodation plus an excellent location for exploring Bath. The rooms were quiet and comfortable and the hotel provided an excellent dining room and bar. Being next door to the train station is a significant plus for travellers arriving and departing via Brit Rail.

"Excellent stay”

I only stayed for one night but was so impressed with the hotel. I had a single room and was expecting some poky room for a solo guest but no the room was great and even though was opposite the train station it was really quiet at night and I had a great nights sleep in a very comfortable bed, which in fact, was not even a single bed!! The little extras made a difference.....very nice shower gel and shampoo, a coffee perculator, good selection of teas and decaff coffee and a mug rather than a cup!! Hairdryer was also provided in the room as well as trouser press , iron and ironing board.....great. The breakfast was really good with a great choice offered. All in all I would highly recommend this hotel, I will definitely use again should I be in Bath again.

"Excellent levels of service”

Spent 3 nights at this hotel, nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Breakfast was buffet style for cold food but cooked to order for hot food, all of good quality. Bar snack at lunchtime was equally good. Would stay here again.

"Charming place!”

I was here for a reunion with old friends. A room for three was a great size, the breakfast was enough to keep going until dinner time and the ground coffee and cafetiere in the room was a bonus!! A very central location for a unique wee place. After check out we were sitting in the bar waiting for our transport when I commented to staff that we had a great stay and the place/staff couldn't have been nicer-overheard by the owner......we were brought two complimentary glasses of champagne. A lovely ending to a fab weekend away.

Great value & location”

A great place to stay, superb location opposite the train station with all sites & attractions within easy walking distance. Really friendly, accommodating staff especially the blonde girl on reception (sorry, I never did get her name) very bubbly, happy & informative. We complained about a noise outside our room all night & were moved to another without any fuss (turned out a fan in the kitchen had been left on by accident!) They even moved our case for us while we were out & about. Our room was so so comfy, we were in danger of spending most of the day asleep! This Hotel is full of 'old charm' and 'warmth' & personality. If you want impersonal, stainless steel functional accommodation then this is not for you - try a Travelodge instead! Great breakfast menu and great food/service & fast free WiFi. Would stay here again on our next visit to Bath

"Excellent in all services and location"

Stayed at this hotel on a Robinsons coach holiday. From the time we arrived to the time we left nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff to make your stay welcome. Could not fault room which was clean and comfortable. Food was excellent with plenty of choice plus what suited us was the fact that you could reserve your time to dine for evening meal which does not always apply on these sort of holidays would not hesitate to recommend to family and friends. Keep up the good work our first visit but certainly not our last to this hotel .

"Great Rugby Stop off”

For years friends and I have been popping in the bar here for a few beers before or after Bath Rugby. The drinks and ales are always perfect and although sometimes busy (obviously ) service is prompt with no nonsense. Thank you.

"Great location and brilliant service”

I recently stayed at the Royal Bath with 3 friends in 2 twin rooms. The hotel is situated opposite the train station making it superbly located for getting around the centre. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left the staff were wonderful, special mentions should go to Heidi at the front desk and especially the housekeeping team who upon seeing the bottle of Prosecco we had left out ready for the evening ahead, put it in an ice bucket so it would stay cold.  The hotel is an old building so don't go expecting a modern vibe. Instead you have lovely building with good sized rooms but with some features you would expect from an older building like narrow stairs and uneven landings. Both rooms booked by our party were spacious, clean and well maintained. We especially liked the large selection of teas and fresh coffee in the room and the free WIFI. Breakfast is also great value with a good selection of freshly cooked dishes in addition to continental buffet. We had a brilliant weekend and will definitely be booking the hotel for our next trip to Bath.

"Really welcoming with excellent service”

This hotel is very handily situated opposite the train station in Bath and we stayed here for two very comfortable nights. The room was clean and light with a lovely selection of teas, fresh coffee and hot chocolate, and curtains were thick enough to give a restful nights sleep. Hotel has lots of quirky, original features - including creaky floorboards and stairs that are slightly uneven, but there is a two person lift. Hotel staff are extremely welcoming and were very accommodating with changes required to breakfast menu. Breakfast itself was very good. Housekeeping even provided us with an ice bucket upon spotting a bottle of Prosecco in our friends room. As we had a couple of hours before our train after check-out, the hotel were able to store our luggage too. I thoroughly recommend The Royal Hotel for a stay in Bath - we will definitely be staying on our next visit.

"Pleasant hotel and close to the rail station”

I was travelling England by rail this time and was visiting the Bath Christmas markets. The Royal was ideal being close to the station and reasonably priced. I had a single room which was compact (but that's Europe for you). It was still perfectly comfortable. The breakfasts were good and the staff

"Good food rooms & staff”

Stayed at the Royal Hotel Bath 14th to 16th April, the rooms were better that I had expected in fact mine was very good, the evening and breakfast food in the restaurant was excellent and staff very helpful and friendly, even managed to reserve one of the few car parking spaces behind the hotel.

"Great hotel”

We came here as part of a package deal with the spa tickets and were impressed by the large, modern bathroom and neat, clean room. Those saying the rooms are dated - they are purposely decorated in keeping with the age of the building. The restaurant is very nice, and the staff are very friendly and polite. The location is perfect, a 5 minute walk from the centre (or less) and the baths and abbey. Price very reasonable.

"Perfect location”

Excellent location, just opposite the station and about a 5-minute walk from the centre of Bath. Really friendly and helpful staff. Lovely breakfast, flawless dinner in the restaurant. Comfortable bed, spacious room (four-poster bed room). Couldn't fault it.

"Luxury!”

We had a huge room with a four poster bed with full English breakfast included for £130 per night. Easy walking distances to all Bath tourist spots. Bed was HUGE, staff extremely friendly and helpful and though litf was out of order, appreciated that there was a good explanation and we were helped upstairs with our luggage. Breakfast excellent.

"Perfect”

This hotel is perfect in so many ways. It is right next to the train station and is walking distance to all of the local sites. We popped out for a short walk and when we returned we had our room service left outside our room with a lovely note as we had left the do not disturb sign on. Such an unexpected treat. Breakfast was amazing. The staff on reception were so helpful and this is definitely a hotel I would return to again.

"Amazing weekend, great hotel!”

I've just returned from a Spa Break weekend at the Royal Hotel. We booked two nights, with breakfast, evening meal, cream tea and a 2 hour session at the Thermae Bath Spa. I stayed with my four sister in law's and we stayed in two rooms, one triple one twin. Good comfy rooms, tea/coffee making facilities and an en suite shower/bathroom all on the3rd floor. There is a lift, but was out of order after one day of our visit. Not a problem for us, as we could do with the exercise!  We had a very friendly welcome, the staff are very helpful and informative. Nothing was too much trouble. We had our evening meal, a three course of delicious offerings, served by charming staff, who were very efficient and also friendly and cheerful. We all had a good night's sleep on comfy beds and had a generous choice on the breakfast menu. Everything was perfect. On Saturday afternoon, after a lot of shopping, we returned to the hotel for our cream tea. Big fruit scones, thick cream and strawberry jam was served, along with plenty of tea. Again, top notch. After that had settled, we left for our Spa visit. There was a queue, busy being a Saturday, with a waiting time of about an hour, but the time passed quite quickly and before we knew it, we were given our robes, slippers, changed and up onto the Open Air Rooftop Pool, steam rooms and Minerva Bath for a two hour time slot. Really brilliant and most enjoyable, even though the sky was clouded up and spitting with rain. The water is so beautifully warm, it didn't matter. Highly recommended. We then returned to have our dinner, yet again, beautiful food, I had the asparagus for starters, plaice for mains and mango syllabub for dessert. All delicious. I don't live far from Bath, but it was a wonderful weekend and would recommend this hotel, it's food, staff, rooms and the spa to anyone. Well worth every penny. The Royal Hotel should be very proud of its staff, from reception, restaurant staff and housekeeping who are an excellent team

"Exceptional!”

My friend Jane & I stayed at the Royal Hotel on the Travelzoo deal from 24th to 26th March 2015. For just under £150 each we got B & B - delicious breakfast with lots to choose from, a glass of champagne, afternoon cream tea & a 3 course evening meal on all 3 days. The food was excellent, the room was lovely, very clean, light & spacious, comfy beads & pillows, with little extras like chocolates on the pillow, a bowl of fruit & bottles of mineral water. The tray in the room had all kinds of teas, hot chocolate, a tea pot ( not just cups ) fresh & instant coffee, a cafetiere & biscuits.  Even the loo rolls were good quality - not the usual thin stuff ! The staff were so friendly & helpful which helped to make our little break so enjoyable. This hotel is obviously very well run. The location couldn't be better - very close to all the delights of Bath !

March 2015 - TripAdvisor

"Fantastic!”

Have to agree with all the fellow contributors - this hotel is excellent value on the Travelzoo deal with all the extra goodies but apart from that we really appreciated the cheerful and helpful staff. We arrived by train at 10.30am and they offered to store our luggage while we were free to enjoy another good point about this hotel - it's location immediately opposite the train station and 2 minute walk to the centre of Bath. Our room at the back of the hotel on the second floor was clean, quiet and well stocked with teas, coffees, biscuits and even bowl of fresh fruit. Breakfast and evening meal were very enjoyable, good quality produce, plenty of choice, efficient friendly service. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

"A Great Deal”

We had a wonderful overnight stay at the Royal. Our deal included afternoon cream tea, 3 course a la carte dinner with a glass of champagne and a full breakfast - what value for money! Food was great. Our room was warm, clean, very comfortable and surprisingly quiet and we slept very well. The whole hotel was comfortable and all the staff friendly and helpful. So well situated near the station and on the edge of the pedestrianised shopping area with easy access to the Abbey and Baths (old and modern). An added bonus was a hotel parking space valid until 13.00 All very enjoyable and we hope to see you again!

"Great experience”

A wonderful deal, extremely good value for money , I travelled by train so the location was perfect. The room was tastefully refurbished, warm and very clean with comfortable beds and pillows. The staff were very friendly and helpful, I would thoroughly recommend this hotel.

"Pleasant and welcoming”

Stayed one night as part of a deal with the Spa close by. Its an old building, with plenty of character and history, and some of that manifests itself in a few quirky features, high ceilings, some odd layouts and a few squeaky floorboards...but none of that was a negative. The room was clean and fresh and whilst it looks reasonably recently decorated, it does have style in keeping with the age of the building...again no bad thing, but that's its style. Staff were very welcoming, friendly and polite and we partook of evening meal and breakfast in Brunel's bistro. Very pleasant meal complimentary glass of fizz (always a nice touch), steak cooked to perfection and an excellent brownie with ice cream to finish off. I'd probably had a prejudiced pre-conception when looking at it from the outside, but it ticked all the boxed and I'd stay there again.

"A most pleasant first stay in Bath”

My daughter was called to audition at Bath Spa university, the trip from Jersey necessitated an overnight stay in Bath - a city unknown to me. I decided that proximity to the railway station was a must, in order to minimise travel by taxi around an unfamiliar town. The Royal was chosen, and the location really is right opposite the railway station! Cross the road at the pedestrian crossing and the door is right there. I did have initial concerns about the closeness of a busy road with a high frequency of bus transport, this concern was unfounded as the room was double glazed and very quiet. In addition to the peace and quiet of the room, standard tea and coffee facilities, trouser press, television and an ironing board were all present. The staff were welcoming and friendly, an attitude we encountered almost everywhere in Bath (except for one unhelpful bus driver). Breakfast in the restaurant was a real pleasure, everything that could be wished for.The full English, piping hot and delicious. The pastries, which my daughter seriously demolished, were excellent. All in all a very comfortable and pleasant hotel. Following our return home my daughter received an offer of a place at the university, so it looks like we will be regular guests at the hotel for the next couple of years.

"Excellent value”

As others have said....we stayed on a deal from travel zoo but I would have paid more. Staff helpful ,friendly, excellent all round. Food very good wine a reasonable price. Lovely to have fresh fruit in the room. Comfortable beds and pillows. Tea and coffee in the room very good. Location very good as we arrived by train. Close to all the sights and shops. Some noise at night but that is to be expected given the location. Highly recommend to all.

March 2015 - TripAdvisor

"The welcoming smile”

The hotel is one of our favourites; when we enter we are greeted with a warm and welcoming smile which is an attitude typical of all the staff. The hotel, which is not modern and impersonal, exudes this approach. Being close to the station it is handy for travellers but there was no noise from trains. Breakfasts were great and set us up for the day.

March 2015 - TripAdvisor

"Very enjoyable stay”

I bought this stay as a Travelzoo deal and it included 3 course meal with champagne, breakfast and a cream tea. We were not disappointed. The room although small was perfectly adequate. The evening meal was delicious, the cream tea scones were fab, the breakfast has so much choice and the hotel and all its staff were courteous friendly & professional. It’s in a prime location for the station, the roman baths, the crescent and the centre of Bath. We did the bus tour which although informative was probably not money well spent as we could walk to all areas easily. The Royal Crescent has lovely photo opportunities and the Georgian house was very interesting. I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel and would certainly stay there again. All in all a lovely stay...only regret was we didn’t take the 2 night option !

Excellent for all travel links, Bath Spa Railway Station & Bus Station right across the road.”

Second trip down to The Royal Hotel. A certain website were doing a promotion which included dinner, bed & breakfast at this hotel. We flew down from Scotland to Bristol Airport and took the bus from the airport into Bath, the hotel is less than a minutes walk from the A4 direct service from the airport, the train station is even closer. The food is fantastic, if you are doing dinner, bed & breakfast you must check out the steaks on the menu (also check out the cream teas in the afternoon!!!). The Staff are very helpful and friendly. The rooms are very clean - A very well located hotel as close as possible to the main rail and bus links. You shouldn't be disappointed.

"Birthday stay”

We stayed at the Royal for just one night. Our room was small, cosy and very comfortable. The hotel has a lovely bar and restaurant, our meal was superb as was breakfast which was cooked to order. All the staff were cheerful and helpful. Would we stay again? Definitely.

"Amazing”

A beautiful hotel with plenty of character, our room was of a very good standard, spacious clean, comfortable and well decorated. The staff were friendly and welcoming at all times. The restaurant is well worth a visit even if not staying in the hotel as the food was amazing. Will definitely visit this hotel again.

"Beautiful historical building”

Upon arrival the first huge advantage I noticed was how close this hotel is to the station - ideal if you are travelling by train and are carrying quite a bit of luggage! The hotel is a Grade II listed Victorian building and it’s so full of charm – it’s clearly a little dated i.e. creaky floorboards, old-fashioned wallpaper, etc. but I found this to be in keeping with the building itself and they're just minor details. We stayed in a 4-poster room, which was spacious and just beautiful. All furniture within the room was made of wood and I really felt like I was staying in a different era! The bathroom however was modern and slick which I was very happy with (an old-fashion bathroom is not really a treat). Cleanliness was great - no complaints on that front either. I would definitely recommend this room for special occasions. The pricing was very reasonable and all-in-all it was great value for money. The staff were friendly and helpful in giving us directions. We did not have any food on site, but other reviews suggest this is also up to scratch. Again, location is key with this hotel – it’s very close to all amenities. Its located right opposite a square where you can go and enjoy a coffee or some breakfast in the morning (there's small bakery there), and all the main shopping streets are only a few minutes walk away. Despite the hotel being near the train station and a road, it was surprisingly quite and the noise pollution was really not as bad as I thought it would be! We were wanting to stay here a second night, but unfortunately it was full (this is a good sign, especially as it was a weekday)! Would love to come back here one day...Thank you!

"Bath 2015”

This hotel is in a great location, could not be any closer to the station if you travelling by train, and is close to many attractions. Hotel itself had a great deal of old school charm and we loved the Brunel design. Staff were friendly and helpful, room was a decent size, and breakfast was delicious. Would go back, and definitely recommend it.

"Valentines and a Cyder Festival”

We've just returned from a weekend in Bath celebrating Valentines and what a weekend it was!!! Briefly the Cyder Festival was good!! OK enough of that, our stay at the Royal was without doubt the highlight of the weekend, easy to find, very clean and comfortable and the staff without doubt the most friendly and professional I've come across in the whole of the Bath & Bristol area. They are a credit to the Manager and the Company. The Hotel is conveniently located right opposite the train station but we weren't disturbed by the trains. There is plenty of parking close by and it is very close to the town centre with all the attractions one visits Bath for. This will certainly be somewhere we will revisit and look forward too!!

"Excellent location”

My wife and I visit Bath almost every year, but this was the first time we actually stayed in a hotel in the city. The hotel was in an ideal location right outside the train station and at the entry to the main city streets (actually opposite Debenhams department store). The staff were very friendly on our arrival. Our room was spacious and quite exceptional for a small hotel with a large bed and full ensuite bathroom. Room was at the back on the upper floors which was quiet later in the night (no noise from the street). Their room rate included breakfast and for the price, it was worth the money. A good hotel in a very good location. We will definitely stay here again

We had a lovely 2 night break on the 11th Feb, with breakfast and a 3 course evening meal , excellent value .The staff were all lovely helpful and friendly .The food was all of good quality & presented to a high standard , the desserts were amazing especially the chocolate brownie with white chocolate & cherry ice cream . Breakfast menu had a very varied choice and was buffet for fruit cereals croissants yogurts etc etc and you ordered the main breakfast items and they were cooked fresh for you . Our room was very pleasant remembering you are in a very old historical building , lovely touches were an Ipod docking station plays alarm clock a cafetière with decent coffee and packets of biscuits and bottled water and various different teas & hot chocolate .Lovely toiletries were supplied the room was very clean & comfortable bed & bedding , the room was very hot but you can turn down the radiator , it's down to preference . The only thing that I was worried about was the creaking floorboards , I was trying to walk without making noise for the occupants below , but give up its impossible it's all part of being in a beautiful old building creaks and all . "A perfect two night stay in Bath”

We took advantage of a two night deal inclusive of breakfast and dinner in this lovely Brunel designed building with beautiful dining room. The location is perfect, right opposite Bath Spa station. Our room was lovely and warm with every facility to make our stay comfortable including (and I think all hotels should have this) a docking station for your Ipod - so wonderful to have your favourite music. You can also borrow DVDs for free. The evening meal included in the price is from the al la carte menu and there is a good choice. Not only is the food delicious, the presentation of the dishes is excellent. Breakfast is plentiful and enough to keep you going for hours. Apart from all this which made the deal amazing value for money, the bonus is the lovely staff - everyone we had dealings with, at reception and in the restaurant, couldn't have been friendlier. Highly recommended.

"A fabulous stay”

Just returned from and overnight stay at the hotel. Managed to get an excellent deal on line to include, cream tea, 3 course dinner and breakfast. Before I arrived I emailed the hotel with a couple of questions and they responded very quick. We arrived early and the hotel happily stored our luggage. First stop was our cream tea which was part of our package. The cream tea was lovely 2 warm scones with clotted cream. Check in was a very pleasant process and the twin room we had booked was so nice. It was the extra touches that made it special. Fruit in the room, a couple of packets of biscuits , a tea pot and cafetière along with quality tea and coffee. The bed linen was of a high quality with feather pillows in the room. Dinner in the restaurant was of a high quality. The waiter was very friendly and again nothing was to much trouble. Whilst waiting for starters we were offered a slice of home made bread which was divine. The food arrived and was looked and tasted amazing and was serviced on piping hot plates. Would definitely recommend the restaurant in your stay at the hotel. The room was quite quiet considering we were next to the road, room was warm with temperature controlled radiators. Breakfast in the morning was a buffet style along with hot food ordered via your waitress. Again the food was of an excellent standard. Overall I can strongly recommend the hotel and restaurant. The staff were so friendly and helpful. The hotel is in a prime spot for using the park and ride for old town stop, just around the corner from the shops and about. 5 min walk to the bath spa.

"Perfect location and a dreamy sleep”

I booked this hotel whilst I was looking around bath university, it's a short walk from either coach or train station (3 minutes or less) the staff in all parts of the hotel, restaurant, bar, and reception were all charming, friendly, and had a great sense of humour and couldn't have been more helpful. Room - spacious, clean, well maintained bathroom, and the comfiest beds I have come across in a hotel, I slept like a baby for the two nights stay. Bar - you just order your drinks to bring up to your room they put it on your tab for you or you can sit in the bar area which has a fir else cosy atmosphere. Restaurant - Big surprise! The choice and quality of breakfast in the morning was better than I anticipated, and I dined here the two nights I stayed due to the quality of choice and products on the menu. Really enjoyable food, even if I wasn't staying at the hotel and visited bath again I'd come for the food. Overall cannot fault this hotel. Also don't worry about hearing the trains as your so close you can't hear a thing.

We stayed 1-3 Feb on Travelzoo deal. The hotel is very convenient for everything in Bath. Staff are very friendly and really helpful. The room was fine with great tea/coffee tray and, even though we were at the front we were not disturbed by noise outside. Food is very very good--excellent choice at breakfast of both cooked and cereals; fruit; pastries. Dinner choice was also excellent--we had steak both nights and it was well cooked and very tasty. Nice to stay in a character hotel in the middle of the city. Thoroughly recommended

Having read the reviews submitted to Trip advisor which were very favourable we decided to visit the hotel for a mid week break. I can confirm that everything said about the friendly staff, excellent menu, spotlessly clean and great chef . You cannot fault any aspect of this lovely Hotel. We were welcomed by the receptionist " Issy" with a lovely smile, nothing too much trouble for her. I would recommend the Royal Hotel which is ideally situated across the road from the Railway Station and very near the shopping centre.

"Chill out time with daughter”

My daughter and I stayed at this hotel for a 2 night break 1st-3rd Feb, and totally enjoyed the experience. A stone’s throw away from train station so arrived and checked in within minutes. The room was clean, warm and had everything you needed. All the staff were friendly and welcoming nothing too much trouble. The breakfast and evening meal were plentiful and enough choice for anyone. Town centre was on doorstep so no need for buses or taxis. We had a trip on tour bus to see the places of interest you could hop on and off if you wanted. Also spent 4hrs in the Spa which included a 50min treatment and the most bizarre experience of being in an open air pool with temperature outside of minus 1 degree!!! Would recommend a stay at this lovely old and welcoming hotel if you are visiting Bath.

"Royal Hotel Bath”

I have stayed in this several times. It is conveniently located opposite the main railway station which makes days out by rail an easy option. Cheap fares available after the morning peak. The Bath tour bus stops nearby. All aspects of the service are first class .I particularly rate the breakfast with a multitude of fresh fruit, yoghurt and a varied main menu .I would recommend a stay in this hotel to any prospective visitor.

"Lovely hotel”

A very pleasant over night stay was had at this hotel. Yes it’s an old building so full of the quirks you would expect. I found the decor charming and in keeping with the age of the building. Yes there is traffic noise but as it is so near the city centre and located next to the railway station this wasn't a surprise. The convenience of its location outweighed this negative and anyway I didn't find the level of noise at least disturbing. The staff were so lovely and the service excellent. We had a deal which included dinner and breakfast. The food was of good quality, the breakfast a real treat. The rooms were of a good size as were the bathrooms, clean and well presented. The room extras i.e. beverages etc. were better than most 'chain' hotels and the beds were very comfy. All in all a lovely hotel with a personal touch I would happily stay there again

"Lovely hotel, great position”

Small, friendly run hotel. Very clean, fantastic bedroom, comfy beds and bedding. Lovely tray with cafetiere, as well as many lovely biscuits (really nice touch). The bistro which we eat in both nights had a great choice, unusual to have a choice for vegetarians ! Great food when it arrived, really nice and interesting. The hotel was very quiet and in a great position for shops, bars & general site seeing. The train station is directly opposite, so ideal if you arriving by train. We booked the car park which was a god send as parking seemed to be difficult & expensive around Bath.

"Good hotel”

The Royal Hotel is an older hotel, and the rooms reflect this but it was clean, comfortable and warm. We had a good deal which included breakfast and dinner. The decor in the dining room and bar were modern and the food was good This Hotel is very central, almost in the middle of the city. Bath is a wonderful city and well worth a visit.

"Night away in Bath”

Really enjoyed our one night stay. The room was clean with lovely extra touches like a cafetiere instead of instant coffee. The staff were friendly and helpful we turned up on the wrong date and they were able to accommodate us. Location is excellent for the city centre. We were on a Travelzoo offer and the deal was extremely good value for money. Can't fault anything, and would definitely stay here again when in Bath.

"Weekend in Bath”

We got to the hotel around 4pm and I was a bit dismayed to find it was next to the train station, but I now admit I was so pleasantly deceived. The interior is true to the hotels origins as a Victorian marvel but renewed to show the true splendour of its origins. It was designed by the late, great, Mr I. K. Brunel who designed and worked on all of the Great Western Railway throughout his lifetime. It is a beautiful establishment, and that beauty is augmented by staff who are friendly helpful and hard working, nothing seemed to be too much trouble for them and they were only too pleased to facilitate our wants and desires. There is a restaurant in the hotel is called the Brasserie Brunel and the food was excellent, it is styled on a Parisian brasserie and the food is fantastic as is the service. We dined there after a session in the Thermae Spa, which I will review in another post, and left the table replete with ample sufficiency. The quality of the meal was very good and the service was attentive without being overbearing, the wine selection was I feel the best wine of the weekend and an excellent accompaniment to a wonderful first night meal. I offer my great thanks to all the staff who helped us have such a brilliant weekend in a cold wet and windy January.

"Visit 26th November 2014”

We stayed overnight en route to Southampton, travelling by train. We'd previously stayed 4 nights about 10 years ago when we had an excellent visit. The same happened this time. Staff were all very helpful in a friendly but efficient manner. Our room and en suite were of a high standard as was breakfast. We didn't eat other meals in the hotel as were eating out with family. Proximity to the railway station couldn't be better! The Abbey and city centre are about 5 minutes walk from the hotel.

"Excellent stay in great hotel.”

We booked this hotel after seeing the deal on Travelzoo. We telephoned the hotel and booked for one night as a birthday treat. The deal was B&B, evening dinner with a glass of champagne & a cream tea! We arrived too early to check in but could leave our luggage so we could go off and do a bit of browsing & shopping. When we came back to check in all went very smoothly & we were greeted by a very pleasant receptionist. We were in room 209,second floor overlooking the street, the only downside was traffic noise. We booked to dine at 7-30 where we got our glass of champagne whilst browsing the menu. We could select from items marked with an asterisk or could order up to £22 from the menu. We chose to do this as we only like 2 courses, I had asparagus with poached egg it was delicious! My husband had Brie & Mediterranean vegetables on bruschetta which he thoroughly enjoyed. We both settled on sirloin steak which was cooked perfectly, this came with mushroom, tomato & watercress & choice of potatoes. I had new potatoes my husband had fries both excellent. We shared a bottle of wine which was very good. The bedroom was adequately furnished, we only had a shower which was a disappointment as after wandering around the shops I like a nice soak in a bath. There was some noise from the street during the night but not too bad .Breakfast was superb, help yourself to cereals, fruit, yogurts croissants etc. The waiter came to see if we wanted tea or coffee and what cooked breakfast and toast we wanted. I had eggs Benedict my husband had the full English all was perfectly cooked. We had white & brown toast and my husband had two cafetieres of coffee .After checking out we left our luggage to go for a bit more retail therapy! We came back to have our cream tea which consisted of 4 warm fruit scones, clotted cream two pots of strawberry jam & a pot of tea for two. We thought the deal at £99 for the two of us was a brilliant price and one which we intend taking up again for another birthday next month!

"A lovely hotel with very helpful and friendly staff”

We stayed at this hotel for a few days with our little baby boy. Staff here were very helpful. Setting up a travel cot in our room before we arrived as well as a baby bath, changing mat and blankets. The room was a good size and very tidy. Food was great. We had 3 course evening meals and breakfasts which were included in our stay. We used the room service facilities on one of the nights as our baby was restless. Staff were very accommodating to our needs and brought all food and drinks to our door which was amazing. The hotel itself is very well situated being directly opposite the train/bus station and close to the city centre. We will certainly return to this hotel again any time we stay in Bath. Highly recommended.

"Royal Hotel Bath”

We had a lovely stay at this hotel for three nights in December 2014, while the Christmas market was on in Bath. This was our first stay at the hotel and we were very impressed. Firstly the hotel is right opposite the main station so coming by train it was perfectly situated and it was only a short, level walk to Bath Abbey and the Georgian heart of Bath, so perfect also for sight seeing. The hotel is a Victorian building designed by Brunel, which has been well maintained and decorated throughout, so it has character. It is privately owned and not part of a chain and the management have given a lot of attention to detail. Our double room was a good size, comfortable and well fitted with an excellent tea and coffee tray. It was clean and well serviced. The hotel has its own restaurant which provides an excellent menu and we found
