What People Say About Us

We receive lots of letters of compliment from guests who have enjoyed their stay at The Royal and the following are some of these comments.

We had a lovely stay at the Royal and were most impressed with all your staff: chamber maids, waiting staff and exceptional reception staff. I have  travelled extensively in Britain and worldwide. The cordial welcome extended by your staff is among the best and most sincere I have experienced. My two friends were similarly impressed. They are a credit to you and themselves. I would certainly come back and will not hesitate to recommend your hotel. With thanks

I am now expecting commission as I have told everyone - if they want to know or not - how superb our break with you was!!!! The food was the best we have eaten at any hotel - anywhere. The hotel was full of charm as were the staff....and we look forward to our visit in October for my birthday. I just hope we were forgiven for returning with the key! and hope it is back with you tomorrow. Have a good Summer and see you in the Autumn. Kindest regards

"Anniversary weekend...”

Excellent location for this Hotel, right on the edge of the shopping centre, lots of restaurants and a buzzing night scene. Hotel was fantastic, staff very pleasant and helpful, and the food was brilliant. Breakfast superb - all food in the lovely restaurant. Hotel has a lot of character, built by Isambard Kingdom Brunel. Short walk to the Roman Baths, the Thermae Bath Spa, and the Abbey. Slightly longer, but still not far, walk to the Royal Crescent and Circus.

"Bath Spa Break”

I took my mother on a Spa Break with Champagne cream tea from 10 - 13th April 2013. The hotel was brilliant. The receptionist, Emily, could not do enough for us. From our arrival to our departure, we received excellent service. Our cases were taken to our room without us having to ask, which may seem a small thing, but it shows the high service level and the care staff took. The staff took an interest in what we were doing and were able to add tips which added to our enjoyment. This was particularly helpful when we were planning our visit to the Thermae Spa. The Superior bedroom was extremely comfortable. The hotel was able to move us to a room with a shower rather than a bath, which was very helpful as we both have mobility problems. The restaurant was excellent. All courses were of the same excellent standard and the menu choices were sufficiently varied for us to be challenged for choice every evening. The breakfasts were well prepared and again, the choice was excellent. Everything was very fresh. The champagne cream tea was a highlight, It was great fun to be presented with the champagne. The scones were to die for. They were excellent, some of the best I have ever tasted. Overall, I would highly recommend The Royal Hotel for value for money, comfort and care.

"Excellent all Round”

This was my second visit to this hotel and it didn't disappoint. This hotel was established in 1846 and it still embraces good old fashioned service and hospitality. A number of hotels could learn from this place. I had a single room which was quiet, clean, with a good sized bathroom with, shower and bath. I ate in the restaurant on my first night, the service and the meal were superb. Nothing was too much trouble, I wanted a pudding but not with ice cream, I was offered, cream, or custard without asking. Breakfast is great value with an excellent selection of choice. I ordered porridge which was cooked to order and was perfect. Cooked options were everything from traditional to eggs Benedict as well as poached eggs or Kippers if you want it. This hotel has a number of creature comforts such as a DVD library for a night in as well as car parking that can be booked in advance. This is very rare in the centre of Bath. Location is fantastic, you are a few steps from the centre of the attractions and shopping in Bath which is great if you do too much shopping and need to drop your bags off and have a well deserved rest in the bar. The hotel is also right opposite the railway station too so great if you don't drive. Without exception all staff are friends, helpful and nothing is too much trouble and I can recommend this place enough. I will certainly be visiting again very soon.

"Ideal for myself and elderly mother”

I booked this hotel after reading the reviews on TripAdvisor. I travelled by train with my elderly mother so the location was ideal. When we arrived it was too early to check in so we left our cases and found somewhere for lunch. The hotel is well situated for places to eat for lunch or alternatively it seemed popular itself for lunch. When we returned to the hotel to check in it was smooth and quick. We were given all the information we needed and asked if we would like to eat in the restaurant that night and a table was booked for us. My mother is a diabetic so her spare insulin was put in a fridge for her. The food was excellent and of good quality and always hot. There was plenty of choice for both breakfast and the evening meal. We ate in the restaurant twice and had a bar meal once. The room was close to the lift as I had requested and had an efficient shower. the room had central heating that was controlled in the room which was ideal as we chose the coldest three days to visit Bath. The hotel is well situated for all the sites and we used the city tour bus which stops outside the hotel. We intend to visit Bath again when the weather is better and will definitely stay at The Royal.

"Great weekend in Bath at the Royal Hotel”

Stayed here for 2 nights in March 2013. The staff were very nice, friendly and couldn't do enough for you. Stayed in a twin room with large ensuite. The special touches like a bottle of wine and mineral water in the room were lovely. The room was very clean. Proper feather pillows on the very comfortable beds which is always a thumbs up from me. Proper sized bath towels in the bathroom. Very good location. Just opposite the railway station but didn't hear any noise. Would definitely go back.

"Lovely Stay”

Stayed at the Royal Bath for two nights as a Birthday treat. Staff were all very helpful, polite and attentive. Very centrally located for the station, shopping and the tourist spots. Had a superior room and it was really nice and comfortable - shower was massive!! Value for Bath was fair, as the place as a whole is expensive. Parking is at a premium in Bath, so would recommend the underground car park underneath Debenhams, which is directly opposite. .Would definitely stay again and would also recommend to anyone thinking about staying there.

"Lovely stay at the Royal Hotel”

We recently spent a night at the Royal Hotel which we thoroughly enjoyed. All the staff at the hotel are very friendly and efficient. The hotel is in a great position, as it's in the centre of Bath. We also booked in advance a parking place which was a definite plus as parking is very limited within the city centre. We stayed at the hotel on a deal that included dinner. The restaurant staff were absolutely lovely and we really enjoyed our meal. Apparently, the hotel is well known for their steaks. We did choose a steak for our main, which we would definitely recommend. We would love to go back to Bath for a longer stay and would book this hotel.

March 2013 TripAdvisor

"Excellent Short Break”

We had two nights here in February this year. the deal was for Bed and breakfast with dinner on the first night. The hotel is directly across the road from the railway station (we travelled by train) and about 5 minutes walk from the centre of Bath. We arrived early and were able to leave our bags before checking in. Our room was very clean and comfortable and well furnished, Dinner was delicious with a very good choice. Breakfast was also good, with plenty of choice, and the marmalade and butter were in dishes, not those horrible little plastic pots that so many hotels seem to use! All the staff were helpful and friendly. Would thoroughly recommend this hotel.

March 2013 TripAdvisor

This to reiterate our thanks and pleasure to THE ROYAL, BATH where we have just returned from our second delightful stay. Even the weather was good. All the staff are most attentive and friendly, and the food more than excellent. After our first visit, which in turn was on recommendation from friends, we have already recommended the Royal and hope to be able to visit again  soon.

"Lovely Hotel Brilliant Location”

Good hotel, Came here for a birthday treat and stayed two nights. Room lovely, bed very comfortable. Staff welcoming and friendly. Food good. Brilliant location. Just across the road from the railway station and the tour bus stops almost outside and all of the main attractions in Bath are a short walk away. Would highly recommend staying here and will definitely come back to stay next time we visit Bath.

"Great Hotel - Great location !!”

We visited bath recently for a break away , I found this hotel online and booked , it was fantastic , great location within walking distance of everything you could want to see in bath. We stayed two night and dinner was included on first night restaurant offered a great selection and the meal was delicious. The hotel has limited parking and has to be pre booked - we were able to use of first night but move car for second night, not that this was a problem as reception were great telling us where nearest parking was. The room was larger than expected and clean, it even had proper coffee in rooms not just instant ! All staff were friendly and helpful at all times. We loved bath and will definitely be returning and this hotel will be top of our list ! - Thanks

"We'll be back”

The Royal is an excellent hotel with great food and helpful friendly staff. Our room was warm and cosy and you would never have guessed the station was across the road.Initially we were only eating in the hotel on the first night but were so impressed with the food that we ate there on the second. The Royal is perfectly positioned to enjoy all that the beautiful city of Bath has to offer

March 2013 TripAdvisor

"An excellent example of good value and service”

I had an over night stay in the Royal last week, staying in a 3 bed family room. The room was spotless, well furnished and stocked with an array of drinks including ground coffee and a complimentary bottle of wine. The evening meal and breakfast were very good and the service by every member of staff was exemplary. It was a pleasure to be served by such friendly, helpful staff, nothing was too much trouble. The location was central to all Bath's amenities. The offer price was very good value for money. I would return.

March 2013 TripAdvisor

"Clean, cosy & traditional with friendly service and convenient location.”

This is a fantastic hotel if, like us, you are looking for a comfortable good value hotel that is located well for the main tourist attractions in Bath. As has been stated in other reviews, service was friendly and food was good. The bedroom (205) was quiet and clean with a lovely ,refurbished en suite. The only problem that we had (Kettle in room not working) was rectified very quickly once it was brought to the receptionist's attention. I would rate this hotel as a very good mid range hotel and would be very happy to use it again if returning to Bath in the future.

March 2013 TripAdvisor

We went on the spa package 4 of us to celebrate the big 60. The rooms were excellent. We took advantage of the dinner deal on the first night and the food was excellent. Breakfast very good and lots to choose from. We had our champagne cream tea before going to the spa because we wanted do the Thermae Spa at twilight (it was fantastic if in Bath you must go) The staff were very helpful and friendly. The hotel is opposite the station and very close to all the sights of Bath. Definitely recommend we all enjoyed it.

"Exceptional Hotel”

My wife and I stayed here for two nights and found it to be a wonderfully welcoming place of accomodation and so conveniently situated. The bedroom was spacious with good facilities and, importantly, spotlessly clean. The restaurant had a comprehensive menu and the food was excellent. Breakfast was as good as you can get anywhere. The staff were kind and helpful and always greeted you with a smile, they made us feel welcome and very much at home. We appreciated everything and could not fault the hotel in anyway at all. I would like to add, we have stayed in many hotels all over the world, this one was special.

"Great location and service”

This hotel is opposite the train station in Bath and in the heart of the city. It's within 10 mins walk of the Roman Baths/Pump Room. Hotel has comfortable rooms, an excellent in-house restaurant, polite and friendly staff throughout, but its the additional touches such as complimentary wine/water in room on arrival in addition to an excellent tea/coffee tray (with real filter coffee and a cafetiere) that I feel warrants the overall rating

March 2013 TripAdvisor

"Overnight stay”

My mother (79) and myself (54) had a wonderful stay here that had been booked last minute so I had not really checked the reviews or looked into it properly but it was a Fantastic over night stay, room immaculate, oranges and fresh coffee and chocolates. All of the staff were amazing, extremely helpful. Dinner was fantastic, so was the service, could not fault breakfast, Hotel is really handy for shops and the train station opposite. would recommend this hotel for all ages.

could not fault it .

"Pleasantly surprised.”

This hotel came at the end of our Valentine weekend away to several different hotels in the South, and it made the holiday complete. We both enjoyed our one night here immensely. Our room was small but romantic. Plenty of towels and products. Very clean and comfortable. Our dinner bed and breakfast deal was excellent value. We would stay there again for sure. Particularly as Bath is superb and the hotel is perfect for exploring all the wonderful tourist locations. Look forward to next time.

"Loved it fantastic customer service”

Spent the night 23/02/13 with friends as wanted to visit the Thermae Spa and stay over night in bath. as soon as we arrived the staff could not have been more helpful. They had already purchased the Thermae Spa tickets on our behalf and they were waiting for us at reception on arrival.when we got to our rooms there were bags waiting for us containing a bath sheet, slippers and toiletries to take to the spa.in our room which was of good size and tastefully decorated we had a bottle of Hardys Chardonnay, fruit bowl, bottled water and chocolates on our pillows (which were duck feather and down and really comfy). There was a well stocked hospitality tray with filter or instant coffee, tea and bouchards hot chocolate and biscuits.on inspection of the bathroom there were plenty of toiletries and white fluffy towels warming on a heated towel rail. The staff could not do enough for us nothing was too much trouble. The 3 course a la carte meal was amazing as was breakfast.

"Convenient Place to Stay in Bath”

I did a lot of searching on TripAdvisor to select hotels for my trip to the UK. I was pleased with the Royal Hotel, which I chose mainly because it is right across the street from the train station, so I could easily get there with my luggage. From TA reviews, I knew to ask for a quiet room, and I got it. I had a single room at the back of the hotel. It was small but had everything I needed. The bath even had a tub--a pleasant surprise. With free WiFi and breakfast, I found the rates very reasonable. The staff were friendly. The room was very clean. Bath is a compact city, so I had no trouble walking everywhere I wanted to go. If I ever return to Bath, I will certainly consider staying here again.

February 2013 TripAdvisor

 "A Royal Bath”

My partner and I have just returned from a weekend at the Roayl Hotel in Bath. It was absolutely great, the hotel is in a prime spot for accessing all the City's sights and shops and the staff could not have been more friendly and courteous.I had read mixed reviews as you get with most hotels and was a bit wary when told we were being put in a front bedroom opposite the station. Ok, the room was a little small but more than enough for our stay, impeccably clean and the bathroom/shower clinically clean. It was also very easy to sleep (no noise- even though the Rugby had been on earlier so a lot of drinking activity everywhere but not that we heard a thing) We ate in the bistro restaurant and the food/service for dinner and brekkie was excellent. I would definitely stay here again and would say that anyone having concerns- don't, it is good!!

"Stayed for Valentines night at short notice”

Staff were excellent, food was very nice, (5 course Valentines menu). Location is perfect if arriving by train. Also if shopping is a priority. And also if (like us) if your going to visit the Thermae Spa.

 "Fab anniversary getaway”

We have just returned home from a fantastic night away at the Royal Hotel on the 12th Feb, which we booked through a Travelzoo promotion. It was our 7th wedding anniversary and thanks to the professional staff and faultless attention to detail we had an absolutely wonderful stay. The receptionist on check in was so helpful, especially when we requested our bags be kept safe until the room was ready (we had travelled by train). Everywhere we went around the hotel, we found the staff to be efficient and friendly, and nothing was too much trouble. We ate in the restaurant in the evening, brilliant staff again, the two gentlemen waiters were really attentive, (without going overboard). The food was superb, many thanks to the excellent chef. My plaice dish was top notch......  The management here clearly understand how important those little things are. A cafetiere in the room, fresh fruit, a quality bottle of wine as part of our 'deal', bottled water, lovely biscuits and beverages available, a few nice local magazines, good toiletries etc. We also found everything brilliantly clean which can't always be easy in an old hotel.  Location perfect, near all the shops and bars, plus a stones throw away from the abbey and Pulteney bridge. We asked for a quiet room in advance and could hear no road or train noise (room 111 - small but lovely and cosy for a romantic break, nice clean modern en- suite). If only all hotels cared about their customers as much as this place. We'll be back!

February 2013 TripAdvisor

"Perfect for a weekend away”

I visited the hotel for a long weekend with my girlfriend from 7th-10th February. Upon our arrival we were greeted very warmly and the quality of the service never decreased across the whole weekend. We stayed in a four-poster room on the first floor (109) which was lovely, with a great en-suite bathroom. The bed was incredibly comfortable, too good in fact as I never made it to breakfast once! The city centre location makes it perfect for exploring the city every day and visiting a variety of restaurants in the evening, as well as being ideal for the station. The bar was often busy with both guests and people popping in We also ate in the restaurant one evening which was lovely. The only downsides were the sometimes temperamental Wi-Fi and a little noise outside but that is to be expected from the city centre location. All in all it was a great place to stay which I couldn't recommend higher.

February 2013 TripAdvisor

"Excellent”

We stayed at the Royal for 2 nights in January (25th-27th). The first thing that we noticed was how friendly the young lady was on the reception. We felt this gave a very good first impression of the hotel. We found all staff to be extremely helpful and friendly. The staff here actually look like they really enjoy their jobs. Our room was very comfortable and the breakfast to a high standard. We would definitely recommend and stay again. In a very central location in Bath.

February 2013 TripAdvisor

"Excellent hotel”

Visited this hotel with our friends and found the staff and service to be excellent. The restaurant food had a good choice of menu and the breakfast was also very varied and of a high standard. The staff were very helpful without exception and I have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to anyone wanting good value combined with excellent service.

"Great hotel”

Just had a two night stay here and cannot praise it enough great position great staff all very friendly and helpful and food was fantastic we had breakfast on two days and a lovely meal on the last evening. The room was clean and comfortable clean towels and bed linen on both days TV/DVD and good coffee and tea facilities which were restocked also we booked a parking space before we arrived and walked around the lovely clean city for the days we were here. Great hotel and will definitely come again, maybe by train next time!

"Shelter from the snow”

I had to abandon my car in a small snow fall in Bath and find a warm bed for the night. As I was travelling by train the next morning the close proximity of the Royal Hotel to the railway station (and the city centre made it an obvious choice) I was made very welcome at reception by Mike who got the mix of professionalism and friendliness spot on. The room I had 308 had a large kingsize bed and a good, but small ensuite shower room but it was the little things which made the stay so much nicer than many hotels I have stayed in at three times the price. I particularly liked having a towelling bath robe and slippers, and a large jar of freshly ground coffee with a cafetiere pot, and the mints were a nice touch. I arrived too late and left too early to sample the food. It was a pleasure to stay here and at £89 (B&B) was excellent value for money

February 2013 TripAdvisor

"Spa break”

Excellent value and really helpful, pleasant staff. Perfectly situated opposite station and easy short walk to centre. We were on a break which included a trip to the Thermae Spa. The hotel provided us with towels and slippers to save hiring at the spa. They even stored our bags after we checked out so that we could enjoy our last day without taking our luggage around with us.

"Stayed here over the last 6 weeks. I can happily call it my 2nd home”

My company have been putting me up at this hotel (4/5 nights a week) for the past 6 weeks while I work at our Art Gallery in Bath. Over my career I have stayed in hundreds of hotels across Europe. I can say that this is probably one of the best. The food is absolutely spot on. I must have eaten around 30 Breakfasts and 30 evening meals here over the last 2 months and I cannot complain about one. Amazing! Top chefs for sure. The location of the Hotel is perfect with all the travelling I do via train. All the staff are extremely friendly and polite. I have got to know a few of them (they actually know me by my name now) they are genuinely really lovely people! Very accommodating. Rooms are always clean, fresh sheets every night. Facilities in the room are great too. I really can happily call this hotel my home from home. I’m truly grateful for the hotel making the past 2 months enjoyable and stress free while working away from home. I will be advising anyone I know that if they are visiting Bath, to stay at The Royal Hotel!!!!!

"Lovely mini break”

Spent 2 nights on a dinner, bed & breakfast rate through Travelzoo. Fantastic location couldn’t be any more central if we tried. A very friendly, helpful Receptionist checked us in. The bedroom was clean and comfortable with lovely little touches I wouldn’t have expected from a 3 star hotel. We ate in the Restaurant both night and enjoyed our experience. A slight hiccup occurred in the Restaurant on our 2nd visit but was very well handled by the Manager. Breakfast was excellent with a good choice of hot and cold items. Check out again was very friendly and efficient. I would recommend this hotel without a doubt, great value for clean, comfortable, friendly hotel.

"Lovely hotel, friendly helpful staff. Perfect!”

I have just returned home after spending 3 nights with my daughter at this very well managed hotel. Our room was lovely and had everything in it that we could possibly need. A lot of thought has gone into space for clothing. Lots of hanging space and drawers, shelves, mirrors etc very well positioned. Great tea/coffee making facilities and Taylor's of London products in the bathroom. Extra touches like box of tissues and cotton wool balls a lovely touch. We had dinner at the hotel on the first night which was lovely. Breakfasts were very good but the best thing for us were the staff. Everyone one of them were friendly and always cheerful and Emily at reception was brilliant. All down to good management. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Very conveniently located near shops, Abbey, Roman Baths etc. Superb breakfast and dinner menu - attentive staff could not do enough for us. Well appointed warm comfortable rooms. Bookable parking space in hotels own private car park adjacent to hotel, which at approx £8 per day is well worth it. Will certainly return.

"Fantastic holiday weekend”

On 30th November 2012 my 2 sisters and I arrived at The Royal Hotel, Bath for a 2 night break. We found the room very good, restaurant excellent and the staff going the extra mile at every turn. It really made it a special holiday for us. It was our first ever away together and was celebrating various birthdays. The hotel was very central, just across the road from the railway station and beside all the shopping facilities of Bath. We were very lucky as it was the first weekend of the Christmas market too, so there was a fantastic atmosphere. Also included in our hotel package was a trip to the Bath Spa. We went on the Friday eve and it was great to relax in the outdoor spa looking at the stars! Overall a marvellous weekend to be repeated soon, we hope.

December 2012 TripAdvisor

"Great hotel.”

Excellent service, convenient location next to train station and the choice of breakfast was more than usually available elsewhere, including 'proper' kippers. Good value for money in Bath. The room I stayed in was quiet, very clean and comfortable. Although not the trendiest decor a lot of thought had gone into the facilities, like a shelf space to put your toiletries and ground coffee with cafetiere and a teapot on the room tray. Heating fully adjustable, including in bathroom. Reception staff were most welcoming. Could not fault this hotel and will definitely stay here again. I enjoyed being here for one night and might stay 2 nights next year. I am fed up with so called boutique hotels where it all looks wonderful but no thought at all has gone into providing guests with basic practical items like towel hooks, shelves etc.

"A Royal Treat”

Excellent throughout. Location just across from Bath Spa main railway station. Very friendly, helpful and welcoming staff. Working lift and services. Fast and free wifi. Impeccably clean rooms. Very quiet. TV, plumbing, hot water all in good nick. Comfortable bed. Hair dryer, trouser press, iron. Full tea and coffee self service in the room with daily replenishment of tea bags and coffee. Even chamomile and herb tea bags provided. Sewing kit and shoe polish. Full English breakfast with a varied menu for the choosy. Superb and reasonably priced food in the restaurant below. Anything less than 5 stars would be unfair!! I would stay there again and again and again... :)

"I love this hotel!”

"Weekend Stay - excellent value for money”

We spent two nights in this very well located hotel close to the main line railway station in Bath and the new Southgate Shopping Centre in Bath which is very impressive. We received very good and friendly service both before our stay and during it from all the staff including the Receptionist who could not have done more to help and advise us. This 3 star hotel in Bath is a little gem and we shall certainly consider staying there again.

"4 stars, Brilliant”

My husband and I celebrated our 10th wedding Anniversary and stayed at Royal Hotel in Bath. The service was brilliant and our room was just perfect. We stayed for 2 nights and enjoyed the sights and Christmas market in Bath. It's position is great, just across the road from the train station. We ate in the bar as well as the restaurant, both times were excellent. The breakfast gives you a variety of cooked breakfasts as well as cereals etc.. I was surprised the hotel only has 3 stars it deserves 4 stars. I looked at reviews before I booked this hotel and all were excellent. They aren't made up try this hotel for yourself.

We have a very enjoyable stay at this hotel. The staff were always friendly and very welcoming. "Excellent location”

The Royal is opposite the railway station and only minutes walk away from all the sightseeing attractions you go to Bath to see. The food is also very well presented and reasonably priced. At breakfast it is the only hotel I know that uses loose tea served in a teapot with a tea strainer.

November 2012 TripAdvisor

"Well managed, and it shows”

Before recommending this hotel too warmly I'd better caution that we probably saw it at its best - it was off-peak, mid-week in October; and (warned by some comments here) we did ask for a quiet room. But our experience was really above-expectation in every way. The room was pleasant, clean, and very quiet. The bed and pillows were comfortable. The bedside coffee was good quality ground, in an air-tight container with a cafetiere. The wi-fi signal was strong and free (so many hotels fail to realise how annoying their poor, expensive wi-fi is!) The inclusive breakfasts were especially good - my smoked salmon and scrambled egg, and my wife's eggs-benedict were all cooked perfectly. Once again, the breakfast coffee was a cafetiere. Overall, there was a complete absence of the minor niggles that so often spoil a stay: something which is only achieved by attentive management, and which so often eludes hotels much more expensive than this.

October 2012 TripAdvisor

"Back to my Birthplace Bath.”

In October my wife and I returned back to my birthplace Bath. As this was going to be a second honeymoon decided to book the Royal Hotel Manvers Street Bath. The room had a fourposter and although that was large certainly was not too big for the spacious and well fitted room. All those little things one appreciates was there and so clean. In fact we found the cleaning staff really excellent and took a pride in their work. The staff were always helpful and nothing too much trouble. We ate in the restaurant for breakfast and dinner which had all that one could eat if you so wished. Cooked to perfection. It was so easy to find your way there from the train just across the road and of course in the centre of the city for all attractions. Would most certainly visit again.

October 2012 TripAdvisor

"Pleasant older hotel”

This is clearly an older hotel, but well-maintained and rather charming, actually. It's just across the street from the train station, and so especially convenient for rail travelers; all the sites in Bath (which now calls itself "Bath Spa") are within easy walking distance. Given the amount of traffic out front, a rear-facing room is probably advised - mine was secluded and quiet; and included free wi-fi, a flat-screen TV, and real bath tub; as well as a friendly reception, a comfortable bar area, and a full English breakfast (included in the room price) served in a lovely room that doubles as a restaurant in the evening. I'd readily return.

October 2012 TripAdvisor

"Very enjoyable stay, comfortable and staff very pleasant”

We stayed 3 nights at end September. 2 nights on the inclusive spa package plus an extra night. The hotel was very busy so gave us the use of the family room to allow the extra night.

It was very comfortable. Room was on the 3rd floor and faced on to the main street, but was not noisy. The staff were very welcoming and never without a smile. The meals were excellent and for the included dinners we had the choice of the full menu. The included cream tea was also excellent. We had a couple of minor queries with the bathroom but they were sorted immediately. The 2 hr included spa session was good and included towels and slippers and could be taken at any time. They were very accommodating when we asked if we could have the included 2nd dinner on the 3rd evening. We enjoyed our stay very much and the food and staff were excellent. Wouldn't hesitate to book again.

"The room was first class"

It was a delight to use the hotel once more. The staff and reception were exemplary. Congratulations all round.

" Good Quality Hotel"

Decided on a whim to jump on the train and spend a night in Bath, we chose The Royal due to its location to the station, not knowing the layout of the city, we thought this would be a good choice as we could dump our bag and explore. We need not have worried as everything is on the doorstep, shops, pubs, restaurants, attractions, all within comfortable walking distance. Check in was friendly and stress free, we were given the keys for room 204, we were more than happy with our room decorated in a tasteful Victorian style, with a canopy and pleated drapes around the head of a huge bed, good quality linen and pillows. We had double aspect windows overlooking the station (not a great view, but it is city centre). We loved all the little extras, robes, slippers, chocolates, biscuits and my favourite, the cafetiere with Twinnings ground coffee (bliss). The bathroom was spotless! With both bath and shower and once again all the little extras, besides the usual shampoo, etc., we were provided with a sewing kit, shower cap and shoe shine kit. Plenty of choice at breakfast, the main menu offers cooked breakfast, kippers, smoked haddock, eggs Benedict, unlimited tea and ground coffee. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Royal and would definitely stay again.

"Everyone should stay at the Royal Hotel in Bath”

Lovely warm reception on arrival, nothing is too much trouble for the staff. We met our family who were over from Australia. There isn't a single negative thing to be said about this hotel. The rooms are clean, comfortable and fresh looking, great pillows! The reception area is a great place if you just want to chill out and have a coffee, chat to friendly staff who are very informative of all the different locations available to visit which are right on the doorstep. The restaurant is excellent, what a choice of food and again the staff who serve breakfast, lunch or evening meals have all the time in the world for you, meals are hot too. I never comment on my stay anywhere, Don’t miss out on staying at this fine hotel, I will be making my next booking very soon. DIOLCH YN FAWR (THANK YOU IN WELSH) .....

"Excellent Anniversary Break”

We booked the Royal Hotel for a short break to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary. The location was excellent for us as we travelled by train - directly opposite the station - with all the major shops across the road and stops for both bus sight-seeing tours (highly recommended) outside the door. The room was very nice, comfy bed and spotless bathroom. The staff were very helpful. I had contacted them earlier in the week to arrange for flowers to be delivered and everything went very smoothly. Breakfast was very nice with a bit more choice than usual, including kippers - always a winner for me. When we go back to Bath we will certainly be stopping at the Royal again.

"Excellent - really pleased with our stay - Ideal for a visit to Bath”

Have just stayed for 2 days in this hotel. The decor is fresh and the staff are friendly and very professional. All the staff were wonderful from my initial call to reception to see if I could place a booking and we were able to also book car parking at the rear (only 6 spaces) which is not available if you book via a website. The restaurant staff were happy to bring more toast and coffee at Breakfast and more bread at the evening meal (to mop up the delicious sauce with the mussels). The rooms were clean and in good order with comfy beds. Even the cleaner was very friendly and happy with a lovely Scottish accent. They were able to accommodate my son's need (he has autism and a limited diet- which I arranged over the phone). One item of note was the fact there was also a cafetiere and tin of ground coffee in the rooms - a very nice touch! It is very central just across from the station so perfect if you are travelling by train. The hotel was designed by Brunel (of the Clifton Suspension bridge and SS Great Britain) so was another added attraction. It is close to the station and shops so ideal for tourism but this means it comes with some noise - but if you are booking a hotel in the middle of a city I would suggest that is to be expected. If you want peace and quiet you should be looking for somewhere in the country.

"Excellent”

Just returned from a weekend trip with friends and cannot find anything negative to say about this hotel. I found the service, staff and cleanliness of the rooms outstanding – the bathrooms are spotless (we had three rooms – so a reasonable cross section). The staff are warm, friendly and helpful and the food is excellent, very well cooked and presented. The hotel’s proximity to the station and all main attractions of Bath make it ideal for a weekend break without the need to drive, so ticked all boxes for us. We are already planning a return trip.

Great weekend

4 of us stayed at The Royal for a pre-wedding shopping weekend. It could not have been better. Right opposite the brand new Southgate Shopping Centre. I have stayed there before on a few occasions and they are constantly updating and improving this lovely old building. The room we had was wonderful and very spacious - brand new bathroom, sofa, massive wall mounted flat screen TV. Everything was fresh and new, including the carpets and lovely relaxing decor. Fine attention to detail including complimentary mineral water, chocolates, a wonderful range of teas and even a cafetiere and fresh coffee in the room. Dinner was delicious - smoked salmon to start followed by steak, the others had similar and one duck which looked fabulous. We treated ourselves to a bottle of their house champagne and found it incredibly reasonable and delicious and beautifully served. Breakfast was excellent - a choice of prepared peeled, sliced fresh fruit plus a large bowl of individual fruit, mueslis, yoghurts, honey, fresh buttery croissants and pastries and the full range of cooked breakfast from eggs benedict to full English .... the list goes on! The staff throughout the hotel were charming, polite, friendly and helpful. Couldn't rate it highly enough and all at an excellent price for the weekend. I will be going back!

Great Staff, Great Food, Great Hotel”

We stayed at the Royal Hotel over the Weekend with three other couples on a Spa break, to celebrate one persons 50th birthday. We found the hotel to be clean and in the perfect position for a break to visit Bath, within walking distance of all the places we wanted to see, including some great pubs.
All the staff were friendly and professional, from the manager, to the receptionists, to the waitresses, the cleaners and the barman. The food was much better than the 'average,' breakfast had lots of choice and plentiful, dinner was very tasty, try the 'black pudding' or 'Moules' starters my personal favourites, everyone had good mains, and if you have space for desserts then the cheese board or the syllabub are also well worth a try. As this was a spa break we went to the thermal baths and this was also an experience, never been before but would go back, then back to the hotel for the Champagne and cream tea. Great finish to the weekend. Try it, you won't be disappointed.

"Lovely stay”
Recently returned from a 3 night visit. Excellent value for 99 pounds per night including full breakfast and one 3 course dinner. I think we were very fortunate with our room. Very quiet. Lovely size. Nice size bathroom, with all the amenities. Breakfast was delicious as was the dinner. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. Loved the location, right by the station and just a few minutes walk from the main sights. When I return to Bath, the Royal will be my choice of hotel.

"Girls weekend away”
Have just returned from a girls weekend away and would just like to say how much we enjoyed staying at The Royal Hotel. It's a small hotel in a great location - literally opposite the train station and an easy walk into town and all the attractions that Bath has to offer. We booked a package which included 2 nights incl breakfast, dinner on one night, entrance into the Thermae Spa and a champagne cream tea. Excellent value for money. What really made it such a good stay was the excellent, friendly service we received from all the staff. Nothing was too much trouble - we never once encountered anyone who wasn't accommodating and there to please (this included the manager, receptionists, night porter, barman, waitresses and the cleaners). You certainly wouldn't get this level of personnel service from a larger chain. The rooms, although on the smallish size, have lots of little extras - even a cafetiere and fresh coffee. Thank you everyone for your hard work and for your commitment to customer service. Keep up the good work!

It was a very convenient location- just opposite side of the station!!- and the staff was really friendly. We had a deal which was £181pp for 2nights with breakfast, dinner, one cream tea with champagne and one two hours spa package. How great is the deal!

Warm welcome, a great hotel with all you need

I stayed at this hotel for my hen weekend along with 14 others as part of their spa package (afternoon tea, trip to Thermae Spa and two night stay), which was excellent value. The staff really make this hotel - they cannot do enough for you. I can't recall a British hotel where I have had such a good service. The manager was fantastic at accommodating our requests and really went out of his way to ensure we all enjoyed our stay. The breakfast every morning was fantastic and excellent service again with no waiting around. The girls on reception were friendly and said 'hello' when you come out of the lift. The rooms were spacious and clean, with very comfortable beds. The only thing I would say is the room was very hot - it was a warm day for March, but there was no ceiling fan. I would stay here again, I loved my stay in Bath! Thank you to the manager and staff for being so great!
