Nothing says Great Britain like a traditional pub. Good food, good drink and a good atmosphere. Importantly, somewhere you can spend quality time with your friends and family. And if you live in or around Bath, you’re in luck!
As well as being a UNESCO World Heritage Site (yes, really) and one of the world’s top spa destinations (yes, really!), this incredible city is packed full of pubs serving both fantastic ale and scrumptious food.
Here’s our top picks for anyone looking for one of these fine watering holes…
The Canon
Some would say this is one of the city’s most popular drinking spots, and we can see why. Not only do they serve up a wide range of food from their classic pub menu, they have a great vegan selection and serve some brilliant ale. Pay them a visit!
The Cork
Partial to an outdoor terrace? You’re not the only one. And, if you are, this might be the place for you! Famous for their burgers, as well as their beer, these guys also serve a decent array of cocktails. All of which you can enjoy on the terrace, in the sun. What’s not to love?
The Bell Inn
Somehow it feels only right that we give this place a mention. Having been bought out by the local community in 2013, this simple watering hole has become a bit of an institution. They have a wide range of beers on tap and offer live music most nights. Very often, simple really is best!
The Grapes
What a name, and what a building. This beautiful venue is set in a Grade II listed building (something Bath is famous for) and has been serving since 1972. That’s a lot of time in business and, as you may expect, it means you’ll be in good, experienced hands!
The Crystal Palace
Right near the heart of Bath, just steps from the famous Roman Baths, you’ll find The Crystal Palace. Now, this isn’t your average pub. It’s got history, charm, and some seriously tasty dishes. Think classic British comfort food paired with local cask ales. And yes, they’ve even got a roaring fire in winter. Cosy afternoons don’t get much better than this!
The Old Green Tree
Do you want tradition? You’ve got it. The Old Green Tree has been pulling pints since way back in 1716. Step inside, and it’s like you’ve hopped back in time (but in a good way!). Dark wooden beams, numbered doors, and local ales that Bath regulars swear by. If you love a pub that feels authentically British, you’re gonna love it here.
The Marlborough Tavern
Fancy something special but still relaxed? The Marlborough Tavern hits that sweet spot. Just around the corner from the iconic Royal Crescent, it offers delicious seasonal dishes (think locally-sourced goodness) in a comfy setting. They’ve even got awards to prove their kitchen knows exactly what it’s doing. Plus, the beer garden in summer? Spot on!
The Pulteney Arms
If you’re after a local favourite, then The Pulteney Arms should definitely be on your radar. Tucked away on Daniel Street, this friendly spot keeps things simple: great food, real ales, and a warm welcome every time. Oh, and did we mention quiz nights? Gather your team and head down. You’ll thank us later!
The George Inn
Feeling adventurous? Take a short drive out to Norton St Philip and step inside The George Inn. This place has been serving happy guests since 1397. Yup, you read that right _ 1397! As one of Britain’s oldest inns, it’s bursting with character and charm. With cosy rooms upstairs and fantastic food downstairs, it’s the perfect country getaway just outside the city.
The Griffin Inn
Here’s one you might walk past without realising just how special it is. The Griffin Inn on Monmouth Street has been welcoming thirsty visitors for nearly three centuries. Recently spruced up, it blends Georgian charm with modern comfort. Perfect for a pint after sightseeing, a hearty bite, or even a cosy overnight stay. It’s Bath through and through.
The Boater
We saved a good one for last. Meet The Boater. Right by Pulteney Bridge, this multilevel pub has one massive beer garden (Bath’s biggest, in fact!). Perfect for sunny days, cold beers, and catching the big game. Plus, their pub classics never disappoint. Basically, if you’re looking for a lively spot with river views and a friendly atmosphere, you’ve found it.
The Royal Hotel, Bath
Ok, so it may not be a traditional pub, but we have a cracking bar here at The Royal Hotel, Bath. We offer a wide range of wines, lagers, real ales and cocktails – so there’s something for everyone. We’d love to see you! We’re on Manvers Street, Bath, and you can give us a call on 01225 463 134 if you want to know more.
