Festive Activities to Celebrate Christmas in Bath

Over the festive period, Bath city centre has plenty to keep you and your loved ones busy. Why not enter Bath Abbey- it’s always decorated beautifully for Christmas, and if you’re lucky you might even hear some festive choral tunes. Bath Christmas Market is always a treat, transforming our familiar cobbled streets into a sight to behold. From indulgent hot chocolate and mulled wine to stylish homeware, handmade jewellery and personalised gifts, it’s not unlike visitors to remain occupied for hours. After perusing the stalls for hidden gems, why not enjoy a hearty Christmas lunch or festive afternoon tea? Many cafes and restaurants in the city centre rustle up the traditional treat with an added Christmassy twist. 

To keep younger kids entertained all the way up until Christmas eve and beyond, the Theatre Royal’s annual pantomime is always a hit. Alternatively, take a spin on the 1000 square metre ice rink situated in Victoria Park, adorned with lights and music to keep the festive mood alive. It’s also the perfect time to learn about the Roman holiday of Saturnalia at the Roman Baths- an easy way to sneak in a bit of educational fun! 

Relax and Unwind

Christmas is a time to relax and enjoy a well deserved break before the busy new year ahead. There’s plenty of opportunities to do so in Bath, even around the festive period. The famed Thermae Bath Spa is open until 7.30pm on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, providing the perfect opportunity to unwind before a few drinks and a delicious evening meal. 

Indulge in Seasonal Dining

The Royal Hotel is also open for Christmas Day lunch. Why not leave all the cooking and washing-up to us, and enjoy quality time with your loved ones over a delicious three-course dinner in our cosy in-house restaurant, the Brasserie Brunel.

Celebrate New Year’s Eve with us

Welcome in the New Year at the The Royal. Enjoy a 7 course Gala Dinner with Champagne, and dancing to our resident DJ. Our price, from £319 pp, includes two nights dinner, bed & beakfast, 30th to 31st December, with a 3 course à la carte choice dinner on the first night, and a Champagne brunch on New Year’s Day. Additional nights before and after on a bed & breakfast basis from only £89 pp (3 course dinner supplement with à la carte choice only £30).
